Recommendation for Torquay please
Good morning. Can any fellow members give me a recommendation for a CL/CS near to Torquay please. I have looked on the CC website and the ones I have found have mixed reviews. Need somewhere that accepts dogs and EHU. Any other facilities a bonus but not a necessity.
Thankyou in advance for any help.

Don't know how close to Torquay you need to be but can recommend the club's Stover site.....it's just like a large CL, and with MWD just about as cheap.

We kept our ‘van’ at this site for five years, before deciding to tour again. Quite close to the aforementioned Stover site, but less road noise. Prices should be quite competitive.

You’re welcome. I should add, there’s actually no road noise. It’s a countryside site, yet only a few minutes drive to the centre of Newton Abbot. It’s very popular (busy) during the summer months and bank holidays, but outside these times very relaxed. Shower/toilet block is the best I’ve encountered. If the site is of interest, don’t hesitate to ask for more info, should you require any👍

Mitzi, we love this area of Devon, all the coastline and interior from Exe right down and beyond Dartmouth. Lots to see and do, including fabulous Dartmoor itself. We happened to stop off at Exeter Racecourse on our way down to Penzance one trip, and we’re blown away by this often overlooked Site. So much so, we actually start and finish holidays here now. It has two pitching areas, one is rather conventional Club hardstandings, all in neat rows, up by the grandstand. But it has a rather lovely heathland based pitching area a bit further away from reception, which to all intents and purposes, a large CL. It’s quieter, prettier, and possibly the best place we have ever stayed with dogs, you can walk either way right round the track itself, or just take to the heathland centre. It’s surrounded by Haldon Forest for more walks and drives, and, is a superb place for getting onto fast roads that will take you to South Devon coast, onto Dartmoor, down into lovely Exeter. It has loos and showers, not the Club’s superdooper tiled luxury, but clean warm and perfectly adequate. Best of all, check out the prices. Most of the all facility CLs charge a lot more. Does depend how near you want to be in Torquay, and how many days, but the rest of the area out of the Torbay region is full of interesting places, lots to do and see.
Yes, there is a bit of road noise, but it is far less down in the heathland area, and it’s something we hate, but we didn’t have any issues here. Might be worth considering for you.

I expect you've sussed that the nearest club site is Hillhead, then Ramslade and slightly further away it's Steamer Quay the non EHU site at Totnes. There are some CLs in the Dartington area and also over the Teign towards Dawlish etc. The CLs are a good way out and it can get busy traffic wise if you're hoping to go into Torquay itself. We tend to go for the bigger sites if we want to go to Torbay as they are all much nearer to the coast. There is a smallish site at Broadleigh Farm, just up the road from lovely Stoke Gabriel, it also has a farm shop there and it's in a very pleasant quiet spot. Also the slightly larger site at Galmpton LINK which has walks down to the Dart. (I think there are times when dogs aren't allowed in peak season edit just checked, maybe they are now?!) Sorry I can't help much further but hope you find somewhere.

Being a Devon Boy I'd avoid the place like the plague. just saying!

I’d partially agree but I suppose it depends whether you’ve got a specific reason to be there. It looked very run down last time I was there, especially Paignton.

Not a fan of Torquay either, but there are some interesting places not far away. As TW says, all depends on reasons for going. 😁

Which is why I’d choose to stay at Stover, as I have many times, and as recommended earlier by Nellie. It’s outside of Torbay itself yet within fairly easy reach of the towns as well as Dartmoor.

We have been going to Dartmouth for 15 years or more and for the last 4 years have stayed at the C&CC site at Stoke Fleming which, with ACR is not much more expensive than a CL/CS. Easy access (for Devon!), excellent facilities and the bus stops outside the site - 10 minutes into Dartmouth.
I totally agree with comments above - something happens to Devon when you cross the Dart and we much prefer the genteel atmosphere of Dartmouth which doesn't seem to have changed since I first went there (to the College) 50 years ago.

Hi,
Recently got back from a trip to Devon stopped at Ross park Newton abbot, one of the best sites ever been on. Stopped here for a week fully serviced pitch for under £110.
Had a look round Ramslade club site lovely site but access road and lack of pavement put me off.
I originally was looking at site near Paignton either cl or private site with easy access that allows dogs. Found a lot of sites I liked didn't allow certain breads of dog so was no good for us.
hope you find somewhere

Thanks to everyone who replied. Went the week before Easter and stayed at Stover. Was nice and quiet and the dog enjoyed the country park.

That’s good to hear MF, and thanks for the feedback. It’s a site we have yet to use, but on our list.
