    HD

Think of it as constructive negativenesssmile One advantage of being a motorhomer on Moreton in Marsh is that most of the pitches will be fine.

More good news for motorhomers is that this week they start to convert the (Western side) service point to an open grill type. Unfortunately they are not converting the second one according to the warden. In addition there will be some road repairs being done at the same time.

I will some photos of the pods separately.

Did the Cotsowlds a few year ago. Extremely pretty no doubt and enjoyed it but expensive for tourists compared to other tourist area, every cafe was 'upmarket' and had very expensive and 'arty' meals on sale. Also the chip shop was usually a van outside the village.

Stayed at Buford site which was excellent, it has large pitches (SP, HS and grass) and the only site that has two double lane roundabouts on it easily capable of taking the largest outfit. Also opposite the wildlife park so you hear the odd lion roar at night. Also the monkeys go wild at 9am when the park opens.

I said earlier I would post some photos of the Pods at Moreton in Marsh. There are about ten in total in their own separate area of the site adjacent to the dog walk off lead field. Each Pod has its own designated parking space. Difficult to hazard a guess at the total cost but from looking online the pods must have cost in the region of £25000 each plus the cost of setting up the area and bases and associated access road and parking. I quite like the idea of them. They have not taken any pitch space away from the campsite.

If you have not been to Broadway Tower Country Park it may be of interest for the views/café and dog walking. (not too far to drive to from Moreton in Marsh)  Pay and display car park.  Don't remember seeing a height barrier in 2017 but I'm sure if you phone they will be able to tell you if it's OK for motorhomes.  Enjoy your time away.

They have not taken any pitch space away from the campsite.

I'm a bit confused, David. I assume that you mean that they haven't reduced the number of pitches in order to build these pods but they must have used some new area and as recent reviewers of the site and several posting members have complained about the poor pitch sizes would the area not have been better used by reconfiguring the pitches?

After all one would expect any club to look after its own members interests first and foremost particularly as it seems to be obvious that not all members were happy with the site to start with.

the pods are adjacent to the dog walk area so in an area away from where the pitches are

It is correct that they have not taken up the space of any current pitches, as MM explains the area taken up by the Pods is outside the confines of the current pitches. Realistically I don't see how the area taken up by the Pods would have provided more than a handful of extra pitches because of the requirement to provide access for vehicles. People using the Pods park in a separate car park adjacent to the Pods.

Moreton in Marsh is a very popular campsite and I can see that friends/families of members might like to use the accommodation to spend time with people with caravans and motorhomes. I have no issue with that. Equally I have no issue with the Club being forward thinking to a point where, because of possible fuel changes our hobby as we know it today may change to more fixed campsite accommodation like seasonal pitches etc.

However, the shame about Moreton in Marsh, despite its popularity, the pitching areas are starting to look very shabby. If you compared to a site like White Water Park you can immediately see what I mean. I think it a legitimate question to ask whether the probable investment of the best part of half a million pounds wouldn't have been better spent on a revamp of the site pitches, perhaps adding some serviced ones into the mix. The current plan only seems to amount to adding more stones to the pitches.

The reality is that, whilst I will no longer use the site, many will because of its proximity to the town. I suppose that applies particularly to those motorhomers who park on a site and don't wish to use their MH as transport.  For me the nearness of the town was nice but, I spend 5 nights on a site and move. I am only likely to visit the town for a few hours, probably the afternoon after my arrival, with most days spent elsewhere.

The pods were put onto the rather marshy dog walking area. Whilst the pods are probably fine, pitches constantly being driven on and off might not have been. In which case, the Club has utilised the ground as best it can.

We drove through this area in 2007 during the worst floods the area had. The only things above water were the Fosse Way (apparently the Romans were clever enough to build their roads slightly higher than the surrounding landscape) and some churches, again wise thinking by our forefathers. The town was awash with abandoned vehicles, and Chinooks overhead rescuing folks. Not sure if it’s flooded since, but it was very bad that year.

No, the C&CC do not have a site in MiM. There may be a CL.

There are 2 CL's in the area but only 1 has EHU and that is at Blockley. The other is at Chippiong Campden, where the C&CC do have a site.

There used to be a C&CC listed site at Fosseway Farm, just outside the town, near where the hospital is now. But it closed a few years back now.

    Of course it is.embarassed

I'd not like to take a caravan through Chipping Campden anyway, although I seem to remember having done so in the dim and distant past when on a rally just outside of the town. Guess it was a lot quieter, and the vans a lot smaller in those days.

The C&CC site at Chipping Norton is a nice little site but unfortunately it is not so convenient as the CMC site at Moreton in Marsh is to the local town. It did have an hourly bus service between Chipping Norton and Whitney which stopped at the site entrance but I don't know if it still operates.

I recall passing near the site some 10-15 yrs. ago, popping in to see what it was like and scooting out a soon as possible as it did look overcrowded even then. From what others have said earlier in this thread, I doubt that I will ever bother to try it in the future.

David, we used the site last year (or just before) and both walked and cycled on different days into the village...

its a decent walk, especially when it was just the start of a much longer one in the surrounding countryside, but the bike ride is pretty quick.

no info on current bus service as we (generally) don't use them...

it might not be (quite) as convenient, as you say, but it's a damn site nicer, MiM has to be the worst CC site we've used, pitches blooming awful...

Snap, I have been using this site on and off for years. It originally only had one toilet block and just the pitches in that area. I cannot exactly remember when the site was expanded, perhaps 10/15 years ago. I have mainly used it off season and have never had any problems with pitch sizes or spacing when using either a caravan and awning or a motorhome but it is possibly 5 years since we were last there.

    BB

It's about two miles from the site into the town of Chipping Norton and for some of the way no footpaths (just a grass verge) along a very busy road as far as I can see. Not my idea of a good walking route and unfortunately a bit far for my old knee. Margaret would also not be happy cycling along such a busy road. But as you say a nice site although unless it's been refurbished since our visit the toilet block was not anywhere near the quality of the Club's Moreton in Marsh site.
