A while ago I read a test report about a Tesla towing a caravan down to Italy. If I remember rightly it was a 1600kg caravan, so by no means a lightweight. In short, it was found to be feasible, but one did need to have strong nerves on a couple of occasions whether it would make it to the next opportunity en route to charge the batteries.

Are you sure those figures for the 2L diesel are correct ? the 340nm looks very low - it it's producing 240hp the torque should be nearer 480-500nm

Even 240 bhp from a 2.0 sounds optimistic to me. My 3.0 diseasal doesn't produce much more.

yes 430nm not 340nm ! i.e diesel does produce more torque than petrol as would be expected.

Plenty of VAG cars and Volvos etc that produce 230-240 hp and 480-500nm for a 2.0L diesel.

For what its worth if towing is going to be a significant part of the cars role I would go for the diesel every day of the week.  The petrol will absolutely drink fuel towing and I think you would notice the extra toque of the diesel.
