So what did the Club ever do for Motorcaravanners?

As someone who has used Fakenham a few times, being able to choose a pitch is a real bonus. It’s a much underrated little site, perfect for anyone who just wants to amble into a very nice little town, is prettier than most Club Sites, is very central to some of the best places to see and visit in North Norfolk, and is rated 4⭐️ by English Tourist Board, higher than a good few Club Sites. And, a whole lot cheaper. Certainly much nicer than Incleborough or Seaview in our opinion.

I think there’s only one SoH failure here, David and it’s not Corners' or Micky's or mine. 😂😂😂

Well, it was tongue in cheek hence the cheeky wink.
However, I don't think specific pitch booking is desirable for a 'members' club which is a network of sites spread across the country.
I totally get it for a commercial site mind, particularly those that have minimum night restrictions, I'll even use them when they fit our needs. But the club is different, I'd be very disappointed if it ever became just another holiday park type site. We stayed on one once where we were told you could reserve and book your very same pitch for a specific week or fortnight on a rolling year on year basis. Many folk did. Dead man's shoes came to mind particularly with those prime pitches on the site. That, the idea, I found just a tad abhorrent if applied to the context of our members club.
No, tip up and choose from those vacant on arrival it's fair to all, no priveleges . We love it!t

Pitch booking would work for us. Mainly because we seldom roll up until 7.55pm, so at busy times invariably get the last pitch going. Mind you, in MH we are only there to sleep. With caravan, it would be very nice. We like tucked away pitches, with little passing traffic. We got a nice pitch at YRP, furthest point from reception block, right up against hedged path into park. Very big, good shade for dogs. No one walking/driving past all day.

That's undeniable but the reverse is true too , someone wanting a long stay has problems getting a pitch because of short bookings in the middle of thier projected stay as is frequently mentioned on here in relation to weekends.
I cannot see how individual pitch bookings would assist the long stayer. He needs the same pitch available for a full week. Not moving part way through to fit in with pre-existing pitch bookings.
I am only describing a system that does seem to work and widly adopted by commercial operators who presumably don't loose by it but of course won't happen on club sites.
Some sites do offer that but on a number it is one week bookings, 2 or 3 day bookings at weekend and 4 days in the week.

Agreed. Having different providers offering different systems is a good thing isn't it. The club's system works and has worked for decades for its 'membership', call it what you will, that private site's system works for them so why change. I really believe that having different providers offering different 'products' is beneficial as we can pick and choose as best fits our needs. I choose to join the club because their product and it's network works for me, it also works for many others judging by the numbers of 'subscribers' .

I only said it would work for us, but I can understand why it might prove difficult on some Club Sites, which are way too busy. It’s actually one of the reasons why we prefer CLs and less busy sites.
If we take the caravan, and stop a while, say a week, on one site, we hope to get a pitch that gives us our prime requirements, namely privacy, quiet and room to stretch out a little. Few pitches, on a tiny number of Club Sites come anywhere near to offering this. Possible in Winter, on more. We have never enjoyed folks walking or driving past looking in, we like to sit outside and have a nice meal, all times of day when the weather is dry. So we use CLs that give us these requirements. And sometimes let us have the pitch of our dreams.....😁

lets go back to the origonal statement "what did the Caravan Club do for motorhomes", well they let something that is not a caravan onto there "caravan sites",where would yous be if the wardens had said you cant come in here thats not a caravan. So thats that question answered and i dont have a problem with motorhomes and caravans sharing our wonderful sites it seems to work with no apparent problems. But the idea of building glorified layby,s is a non starter as the cost of the whole concept would be a dead loss in money terms, so i wont be supporting that idea.
