So what did the Club ever do for Motorcaravanners?

Read my post again, David, in the context of it replying to Nav. You seem to have misunderstood. It’s not me saying folk can’t be trusted.

I am not at all sure what we pay for actual electricity usage on pitch as opposed to the installation and maintenance overhead portions. I always supposed that the usage is averaged over the year. Maybe actual usage is £7 a year in winter when there are less sites open and as low as £2 in summer when all sites are open and far busier.

be fair BB only mentioned it about 8 times, perhaps micky missed it?

The pitch we are on is (if i strain)in view of the M/C service point and there are at this time one on and two queueing to use it, and as there are often complaints about queueing for showers at this time (not enough) do any of the posters on here feel the same about M/C service points? and that the club is not doing enough to save this delay for motor caravans ,so there should be more M/C service points as it is taking to long by having to wait to empty and fill before continuing their journey,
Ps and that of course does not include the add M/Cs that just want to stop off on site to "replensh" after spending the night wildcamping else where

We have never had problems at Motorhome service points, we try to time our leaving so the dump drain is clear, if we cannot we take the waste to our next site and dump it there, whilst topping up the fresh water tank. If as you say, several are queued and we just need fresh water then we fill up at any fresh water tap where we do not block the site road. There is usually at least one, usually by the toilet block.
Provision is pretty good for motorhomes IMO.

No, JV, I’m not asking for special treatment to have more MHSPs even though queues do form. For one thing, there isn’t usually space for more and nobody wants to see pitches removed. If the queue is too long, we do the tanks on arrival at the next site or take the waste home with us.
As I said before, I do think the queues are a good indicator of the chaos that could ensue if passing members were allowed to drop in and use the MHSPs.

From what I have observed, the delay is caused by the waste tanks fitted to motor caravans having a tiny outlet, similar in size to a normal tap. If they were fitted instead with a proper dump valve - even a 3" (other measurement systems are available) one - the tank would empty in a few seconds thereby hugely reducing the service time.
As was pointed out just a little up the thread, motor caravans do not need to fill at the dump location, "Any tap will do".

What you say about motorhome wastes is certainly true of some makes of motorhome. Unfortunately that is not so easy for the owner to remedy although one motorhome Facebook group I belong to there is certainly no end to the ideas of how to improve things!!
On your point about using any tap I imagine this would not be encouraged by the Club if you were filling via a hose. It would depend on the location of the service point and whether you would be blocking the road. I have even seen signs requesting motorhomes not to fill up at service points.

It does depend on the width of the road layout - and the length of the hose. I recall one motor caravan user at Strid Wood topping up the tank from the "all inclusive" service point while his outfit was on an adjacent pitch just by using a long hose.

It’s quite common, we saw a couple of MHs filling tanks from back service point near camping field at YRP. Hoses didn’t go over any road, and it only took a couple of minutes at a quiet time. 👍

I think the idea of using the club car parks is interesting but would presumably fall foul of the fire regs in the UK. When at York recently this seemed empty most of the time apart from some locals who used it instead of parking at the park next door. Although am sure it would be popular at somewhere like York it would also be problematic with the narrow access and people being turned away when full unless it was pre booked, and then it's not really an Aire, just a small pitch
It's frustrating that there are very few Aires in the UK. Ambleside one was great whilst it lasted before the national park authority close it down as an eyesore from the fells and on a flood risk area (despite the fact it was right next to a massive car park that's packed everyday)
On the queuing for MH service points this can be a problem eg at same visit to York Have always thought emptying should be separate from filling but this would use more space, or at least try to have 2 filling taps on busy sites like York where you often have to queue

Recently saw a motorhome on an adjacent service pitch using that tap and his hose to fill his tank. Saw little wrong with this, it's the same water, I guess if that pitch had been occupied then it would be rightly unacceptable. Saw other caravaners filling their water hogs and kettles at vacant service pitches too.

On the very rare occasions that we've been on a site with serviced pitches I've done that, and also used the M/H facilities, when they have not been in use, to fill barrels and empty waste.

Park & Rides make spaces available to overnighters.
I believe that many have had problems with a different kind of "overnighter". Those who stay for weeks.

Unfortunately, as in many aspects of life we allow the minority to dictate. I'm sure a solution is to be found, it just needs that will and determination. May be insisting single night and not returning within a week (as an overnighters) may help as a starting point for the thought processes.

I'm sure a solution is to be found,
Staffing.
But then the "pitch fee" would become more than the overnighters were willing to pay.
0 -
Not necessarily, that too may just possibly be solved with ANPR and strict adherence to prosecuting those who abuse.
Many aires don't have visible or any overnight staffing.
The solutions may be challenging but as I say all that Is needed is a will and a way!

Apologies, folks. I seem to have missed lots of the discussion again!
I don't know how much it would cost to install and maintain APNR, but I do sometimes think about this when I visit my local hospital. Not only are the parking charges extortionate, but the payment machines are often out of action. There always seems to be someone on site to deal with the malfunctioning APNR - including a voice contact intercom at the barrier. Would this entail employing an extra person at each location to deal with malfunction or intercom communication, and would this be economically feasible within the knowledge that the usage would be relatively small? What happens if the system goes wrong and there is no one available to put it right?
Might folk be concerned about 24 hour open access to sites. CAMC sites are already different to some site providers in allowing 24 access to many sites when you are staying on the site. I think I'm right in saying that the C&CC aqnd some private sites wont allow access after 10pm?
Would using parking spaces/ late night arrival spaces as supplementary pitches require change of use planning?
I don't know the answer to these questions - just being 'devils advocate', but I guess that these are questions that will be asked should any of these suggestions be taken forward.

One of the wonders of the Internet is that you can use it to purchase a plate with any registration mark you choose for probably less effort than it takes to go out and steal a set.
So ANPR deters only honest people - just like locks!

"Unfortunately, as in many aspects of life we allow the minority to dictate."
That rings a bell. 🙁

Oh yes, thing is that majority want 'it' but they themselves can't agree what 'it' looks like!
I reckon the majority of us want single night bookings, we just can't agree what that should be. The sticking point is what you get for your money for some.
Funny thing though is that we already have 'it' on every site on the network we just all pay the same for the stipulated facilities and services provided.

Dunno

That can't be fair can it?
