Motorhome secure storage in France

Afternoon all.

We're looking to head over to France/Spain etc next year and will need to return to the U.K. for a couple of weeks max part way through the year. Ideally, we'd like to return without the Moho and leave it in secure storage somewhere. I understand that the insurers need to get authorisation from their underwriters before they'll approve additional cover, so, can anybody recommend storage that, in their experience has been used for this purpose, or does anyone know of any. The area that we're specifically looking at is around Lyon.

Thanks :))

I googled Gardiennage Camping Cars Lyon and lots of possibilities cropped up. The top one was www.vegisere.fr but I know nothing about it so perhaps make a visit when you are on the area.

Thanks. Yes, we've seen plenty advertised when we've searched online too, but I was hoping for a personal recommendation. CASSOA accredited is acceptable in the UK so I was hoping I might be recommended a French equivalent.

I don't think France has any equivalent of CASSOA storage. Another possibility for you might be to leave your Motorhome on a small private campsite where it would be overlooked by the owner living on site. We have done that in France with a caravan, but I guess you would need it to be a campsite within a short taxi ride of an airport for a flight home.

It's looking like that, yes. I've had a couple of people suggesting the same thing. Was your insurance company happy with that arrangement?

Far from it !  It was an emergency flight home because of my mother's illness, the caravan  was insured at the time with a Caravan Club policy and we realised afterwards that an unattended caravan wasn't covered at all. Needless to say we now have a caravan insurance policy with another company in case we ever have to leave it overseas again. Good luck.

I am interested in the insurance aspect. Can any one point me in the direction of an insurer who will cover unattended motor homes while we fly home from time to time.

Paul, your question has cropped up on specialist Motorhome forums and the replies usually say you need to talk to insurance brokers who may be able to build your requirements into a policy - brokers such as HertsInsurance at Bishops Stortford and Stuart Collins in Swansea have been mentioned, but I have no recommendation of them and no knowledge of who they would place the insurance with.  You may find that there are insurance brokers in your own locality who can be helpful with a face to face discussion.

PS. But they will of course want to know and approve the Overseas Motorhome storage you intend to use.
