Member Offer: My Esso Card

. . . and only applies in parts of the world that implement GDPR.
I wonder if anyone has yet been defrauded other than the occasional double-charging of a sale?

I would imagine those who've used the card will have their details retained for accounting purposes. Anyone who is worried about their debit card details itself being retained would just need to cancel with their bank and ask for a replacement. I am not inferring the transactions are unsafe.

Sooner or later, someone is going to lose a card, or have it cloned.
It's not clear what the limit of your liability is then.

Really? I think we all know that its never coming back up!
I realise that Rowena is in a difficult position, but statement like this erode trust in this offer, and in the club as a whole.

I'm content with braintree being used as the payment engine, but it seems extremely unlikely that PK are not retaining any personal data.
Even if PK do not retain debit card numbers, they are clearly retaining email and phone numbers. Probably addresses too.

The thought that the whole scheme was little more than a data gathering exercise was voiced near the beginning of the thread.

Does being charged on a card other than the one listed count as fraud ?
Ok it was the original one I signed up with but have been and amended details a few times and it shows the correct numbers of card to be debited but they debit the wrong card !
Emails seem to make no difference to them, and I would like to know which club officials set this up, and what the club or the officials get from it ?
A bit more transparency is needed I do think and a proper statement from the club stating their involvement in all this.

I had been hanging on to my card, hoping that PK would get their house in order. I've decided that's unlikely in the near future and have cancelled my card/account.
If PK get things like this wrong, I have very limited faith in their ability to protect my personal data.
My trust in the club has also been severely dented. Not just for promoting the deal (we all make errors of judgement from time to time) but for failing to get under the skin of some very serious issues.

Can Rowena, Laura, Tolga or anyone else involved with this card and PumpKing give a CAST IRON GUARENTEE that when the account is closed ALL data held by PK and others the data is shared with have destroyed all that data and it will not be used for any purpose?
I have emailed PK numerous times and yet to get an answer!

really, i would like to know how many people can PROVE that they have had unsolicited emails/texts or what ever since they lodged their personal info with PK, I certainly have not, apart from the many txts yesterday that were clearly a software glitch, and how many have had their bank hacked. Terrible promotion and yes the club should be ashamed, but there is a lot of fake information being banded around, like i dont recognise your statement above and being a card holder I have followed this post closely, but i am always open to being proved wrong.

You may not recognise it, Rufs, but I remember it.
Btw, I haven’t said there was any substance to the idea.

Although I cannot prove it, after joining Pumpkin and within two weeks there was a definite increase in the amount of spam email into my Inbox and it was not the usual drivel about making things bigger.
It is also an email address I only use for companies which I think are well known and reputable. The email address used was not the same one as the one used for logging into the CC website. Coincidence?

Many of the big financial companies do gather information data, we all know how our spending habits are monitored and adjusted by the markets. However it's the security of the information that is important to most of us. The club have assured users of this scheme that the information supplied is secure. I presume that's as good as it gets unless anything untoward happens and this could occur in any part of our digital lives.

I will be a lone voice of positivity - despite 49 texts and a 3 month wait - the savings appear genuine.
I have filled 3 times now without problem and saved roughly £5 each time on super diesel (which I only use as the cars run sweeter, more economically, and don't have issues with clogged DPF filters despite one car being very urban stop/start).
Any way, the savings this week against my 2 local Esso's are:
Petrol 4.0 p/l
Diesel 7.7 p/l
Super Petrol 8.1 p/l
Super Diesel 9.5 p/l
No Supermarkets sell super diesel (although Tesco own 99-ron super petrol is very good), and cheap Asda/Morrisons fuel does 33-35mpg instead of 39-42mpg in my car, massively negating any savings.

Oh I'm sure its possible to make savings on the card, especially if you live in a rural area.
But for me, I'm fed up of:
- Being misled by PK and the club
- The club not taking serious action on a deal they promoted
- Ts&Cs being changed without due notice
- Convoluted way of handing the 1p promise
- Concern about my liability if my card is stolen or cloned
- Concerns about my data security
- Chaos of the operation - I have little confidence of a satisfactory outcome if I hit a serious isssue
I love the savings, but its reached the point where they come at too high a price. I've closed my account and cut up my card.

Likewise - I could be saving about 8p a litre on standard diesel due to the price hike this week. BUT the cost of that saving is just too high.
The incompetence of Pumpkin is just unacceptable and I am very very sorry indeed that the club got involved in this.

I also have had no problems with the card. My card arrived when expected, as did the replacement one more recently. I have used the card (when prices dictate) a number of times with no problems.
I also received multi texts at the weekend, but have given them the benefit of the doubt that their texting service was faulty - it happens!
Savings-wise, the published prices are on a par with local supermarkets at the moment but we have had some larger savings which is helpful. My biggest gripe is that our local Esso's card machine is faulty which is frustrating as it usually takes a couple of attempts to put my transaction through.

I have yet to own a functional card, having applied on 9th December. My card finally arrived on 28th February, but have been unable to activate it on the website; I just keep getting the advisory 'This card number not found in our system'.
Amazingly I received a reply from Pumpkin within 3 days of emailing them the problem, with a promise that the 'the technical team have been asked to sort out the issue for you about the card not being recognised'.
Still waiting for the card to activate though....
From talking to customer support today it appears that being unable to activate the card is a known problem (the very helpful adviser that I spoke to was experiencing the same problem).
My family have started a sweepstake with a prize for the person who most nearly guesses the date when the card will actually work!

can I book 1st April for my sweepstake ticket?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for your patience while this issue is being look into. We want to assure you we're taking this extremely seriously.
We will update you as soon as we have received an account of the incident from the third party supplier.
Once again, apologies for any inconvenience caused.

We want to know about a lot more than just what happened in this incident! Can you also investigate/report back on:
- Why the Ts&Cs have been changed without us being given due notice
- A better way to get the benefit of the 1p promise
- What's our liability if our card is stolen or cloned?
- If people have Deleted User their account, when will their data be erased?
- There's at least one report of a prior card being charged even after it has been superseded.
Thanks!

Also, what about those of us who want to change our pin number and not have to use the one embossed on the front of our cards. I don't know of any other organisation that doesn't allow you to use a pin number or password of your choice. We are also told frequently to "Change your passwords" to help prevent online fraud.

not really for this post, but there was a serious article in the press a couple of weeks back whereby the microphone on your portable phone can actually eveasdrop on your conversations, and then by using a serious of technical algorithms translate the information into selected advertising for e.g. on your facebook page, this is for real, not an April fool prank.
