First post - Booking confusion

Ok...please be nice. This is my first post. We had a caravan when our boys were little, about 25yrs ago but didn’t get much experience at the time before selling up. What I do remember is that the sites we went on at the time were all grass. So improvement or not, I’m still confused with how this booking malarkey works?  I’ve been on the on line  booking site, which was fine btw, and first place I’ve booked for March (Broadway) gave me an option of hs or grass, with or without awnings, services or standard.  I’ve booked hs standard.  The second, in July, (White House Beach) only has choice of awning or not. No awnings are fully booked, I guess cos they’re on the seafront, but no choice of hs or grass for the others? According to the list Broadway has 92 hs and 4 grass and we get a choice. White House has 80 hs and 32 grass. Doesn’t make sense why we can book hs at one but not the other? Also, what happens when you turn up at the site when no one can book in till 12? Is there a long line of caravans/motor homes etc waiting their turn and it’s first in first choice? Do people that turn up on a chance get to choose before those that booked if there are places available and they’re in the queue first? I’m so sorry this has turned into such a ramble. Feel free to ignore it or dissect it and try to give me answers that I can’t seem to find in q&a.  I’ve learned such a lot from this forum already so I’ll just keep ploughing through all the other queries until I happen across ones the same as ours.

HI Kassiepoo. I am a long time member. There is no option to book a hard standing on CMC sites - just Awning, Non-awning or Serviced pitches which have water and waste water on pitch for an extra £3.90 a night. On arrival you choose the pitch that you want of the type that you have booked (awning, non awning or serviced).

I know that for some reason the Broadway site does show a grass with awning option. If you look through the various months all days are shown as not avaiolable. Very strange and confusing but I suspect that there are no grass pitches on that site.

Generally if it is 12am arrival that is the earliest that you should arrive. I use about 14 different CMC sites a year along with other sites and when I arrive (usually around 12.15pm) there are normally none to 3 other units before me.

I usually book an awning pitch and as there are more of these I will get a better choice of pitches normally. On some sites I may book non awning due to their prime position. I don't actually use an awning at present

It very unusual to be able to book a H/S pitch. In fact what I think has happened is that the site will not be opening the grass pitches at all at Broadway, as they appear to be fully booked all year. It may be that they are being allocated for use as seasonal pitches.  What you normally see is a choise of Awning/Non-Awing/Serviced pitches, and these can be either grass or H/S (although Serviced pitches are usually H/S but you have to pay £3:90 pn extra for them). Usually unless you arrive at 12:00 (or the listed earliest arrival time, as some have a different listed arrival time from 12:00) on a Friday you will not have to queue. You do have to select a pitch yourself, once having booked in.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the club. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Hi EasyT, thank you for that.  We’ll not know till we get there what the set up is at Broadway. As it’s only a couple of weeks away, we’ll find out soon. It’s good to know that in your experience there are no long queues so feeling happier about that.  We only have a small awning just to give us somewhere to clean up ourselves and the dog after walks. She tends to like mud and puddles! We only have a 2 berth as we wanted to get used to the whole experience of towing a caravan again without too much worry.  I’m not the driver btw I’m only the passenger. Not even the navigator anymore since Sallysatnag came into being. My husband does all the driving and is more than happy to do it. We have a Swift 460 SE which is a 2004 model and a Nissan Navara doing the towing, so a pretty stable setup....I think? Thank you again for the info and hopefully all my future posts will be ramble free or on the “Story Page” 😉

I think Broadway is a bit unusual by giving a choice of grass pitch. Perhaps because of the small number on the site it is easier to have them as a separate category just in case they have stop using them because of wet weather (the site is open all year). Best to have a look at the site plan for any site you are intending to book as that will give you an impression of the mix of pitches. You are right about Kessingland but it is only the front row.

I have seen the same anomaly on other site pages with grass options shown to book but shown unavailable for all months David. Not sure if they have been removed from other site pages.

I thought I understood the system as well as anyone but having read all the above I’m starting to wonder🤪. It's not surprising that Kassie was confused.

    Hope you’re OK now, Kassie.

Just because you stipulate an awning pitch it does mean that you have to put the awning up.  Your right about the Kessingland, on the seaside annex the row closest to the sea is non awning.  We have stayed on the second row and haven't put up the awning

That's it ..... muddy the water laughing

The true option should be awning or non awning. It just so 'appens that on this site all non awning pitches are on grass. Obviously CC did not want to confuse folk. Don't tell TW

No but if you book a non awning pitch at Warwick you will only get a hardstanding...onwards and upwards in the confusion stakes. laughing

We loved White house beach, great site. Don't worry about not being on the sea front bit, the other part is so close it really doesn't matter . The little restaurant as you approach the site entrance is great and reasonably priced but be sure to book if you want try it it as its extremely popular.   Also a good Fish & Chip shop within walking distance. cool

Also worth noting if you have a dog? the beach is dog friendly throughout the yearcool

I'm off to Warwick later this week for a few days. Judging by the weather forecast, awning or non-awning may well be an academic rather than practical exercise.

The non-awning pitches tend to be more level. On the rails, too.

Thank you everyone for the replies...very entertaining! 😉 Huge coincidence that the first one I book (Broadway) gave me hs or grass option. As it was hs I wanted I didn’t think to look and find out how few or how many grass pitches there were. Seems to be trial and error so will have fun (I hope) finding out.  For the record, my name is June, my husband is Martyn. Kassie is the dog. Yes, another one 🤬but In our defence, we ALWAYS pick up after her, although she does have an annoying habit of doing it within about 20yds of the house. Sometimes so close, we can dispose of it in our bin before carrying on with the walk! 😊

Very nice little site, become one of our favourites. Town centre is an easy 10 minute stroll. If you haven’t been, the Gaydon Motor Museum is a fantastic day out. Very easy parking with MHs of all sizes as well. A very good wet day out, all under cover. The cafe has nice food. An easy 20 minute drive from site. You get £2 per person discount with Club Great Savings guide, so take your vouchers.😁

KP/June, tell OH not to rely too much on Sallythesatnav, especially when close to the site. It's much better to check your route on a map and follow the instructions in the Site Directory or on the CC's site web-site for the best way to the site when towing a caravan.
