Has anybody else had there BMW "Impounded" by the dealer after a safety recall for engine fires caused by EGR cooler leaking?

Ours has been at dealer 3 weeks so far, Global back order of replacement parts with no release date.

We missed half term away and have May, Easter and France in the Summer Holidays booked, without a tow car!

We do have a Volvo XC60 as a hire car, but no tow bar fitted to any of the Enterprise hire cars in the uk. BMW will not pay for a specialist hire company that has tow vehicles!

Have seen a lot of discussions on the f10/11 Facebook forum. I was lucky that my local dealer said they'll call me in when the parts are available. However, now traded that car in and the sales rep (BMW Maidenhead) made a comment about the parts shortage not being good.

Several years ago my Land Rover Freelander developed a fault under warranty with the towing electrics, Land rover hired  a car for me from  enterprise Preston branch complete with tow bar and number plate for the caravan. So enterprise do have cars with tow bars

They may well have had Tow bar equipment on Enterprise hire cars several years ago? But according to them not any longer, or any main stream hire company that I have spoken too this past week?

There are specialist company’s who hire tow cars at approx £170 per day! Above the budget BMW Uk say they will pay(£45 per day)

Maybe only do them for Land Rover because they give you a Land Rover with tow bar. If not Land Rover must get them somewhere else , because if you have a Land Rover under warranty with a tow bar fitted by the dealer the you get a hire car with tow bar if you break down and the car cannot be repaired in 2days

Yes read an article about it within the last week and there are a lot of unhappy owners affected, due to a lack of spare parts. If you google BMW ERG Valve recall you will come across the article by Auto Express.

Enterprise do indeed do have cars with tow bars, supplied with a Tiguan     in January for a few weeks as a replacement following someone running into mine.
