Member Offer: My Esso Card

Has anyone else noticed that the last few texts have a ? instead of a £ sign. Can texts just change on their own? Or does it mean that PK are unsure of the actual price for this coming week? They could claim that the figures that we see are not actually the price because there is no £ sign and charge what they like.

Just cancelled my bank card have had enough of this fiasco

I tried ‘blacklisting’ the number on my ‘phone but it didn’t make any difference as they just kept coming, and still are, with one 2 minutes ago. As mentioned in a previous post, the last few have a ? In place of a £. I didn’t even confirm my application after being asked to input card details which is particularly annoying.

Occams razor would point to it being a simple muck up. Probably when they were reconfiguring the sendgrid text message service to stop the multiple texts going out.

There's an 'unsubscribe' button on my profile page. That might do what you seek.
I Deleted User my debit card from my profile and said that I'd put the card in the safe until the service became stable. It does not feel as if we're there yet!

How did you cancel? I tried what you did, you get an auto email response to click a link to confirm, when you do this (within a few seconds) it just says the link has expired and your allowed to log back in and do it all over again!! Round and round in circles

Well it worked first time for me. I received a second automated email confirming the account was closed.
I would be unsurprised if they have not been inundated with account closures. Perhaps that has now disrupted their systems.

Perhaps it was a botched DDOS attack by a disgruntled cardholder.

Never applied for this savings card and do not want one so how am I constantly bombarded with texts from pumpking telling me the price of fuel.had over 60 text,s today and I would now consider this to be harassment, how do I stop this, it’s driving me nuts

There was a discussion this morning entitled Pump-King text messages addressing the text spamming this morning. Why was the discussion locked after 13 posts?
Moderator Comment - The thread was closed for two reasons, firstly it was posted in the wrong place and secondly we prefer to keep all posts on the same subject under one main heading, as in this thread here. This forum only has a limited number of moderators so we can;t be on hand 24/7, unfortunately this risks posts being made before we can get to them to take action. Whilst closed the original thread is still visible with the invitation to continue the discussion here.

Probably because this is the thread where the Esso card is being discussed and posts were appearing in both threads, plus the old Shell thread, causing confusion. (That’s why I posted the link in the other threads.)
I’m guessing, mind, as I’m not party to the moderators' thoughts.😀
PS. It was also in the section for non-hobby related chat.

PPS. There is a reason given by the mod in the opening post.👍🏻

It was extremely disconcerting when the texts started as I was driving to Norfolk on the A47 and ignored the first ,but when they continually kept coming I thought one of the family ,had a problem and was trying to contact ,as they knew signal at the site where we are staying is not very contactable but texts will always get through, and stopping places are scarce on the A47,so it was a bit fraught until we found a safe stopping place

Hmm. Both the caravan club and PK pretended that the myessocard website was 'down for maintenance', rather than telling the whole story. What makes us think they'd tell us the full story if there was a major breach? Or to put it another way, if they assured you that all was well, would you believe it? Would PK be competent enough to know if they'd been hacked?
I want to trust PK because I like saving money, but there is no way I'm givng them my new debit card details until the service is running well and I'm sure my details are secure.

The website wasn't just "down" - it had disappeared which was very worrying.
My gripe was when I went to register online for the fuel card (after recommendation from Club employee at Feb NEC show ) 3 weeks ago, I entered my name, address, phone number and email address. However, when I discovered the only option of card payment was a debit card, I exited from the registration process. There was no option to delete the personal details I had already entered which did worry me at the time.
And so today.....a deluge of texts. Surely breaking all GDPR requirements as my personal details have obviously been stored by PK?

Having been inundated with over 40 texts today from PK I have come to the conclusion that these people are not competent to manage my details.
On accessing the website to cancel my account I find that even if I cancel my account they keep my information with no way on the site to get them Deleted User (read small print in attached picture).
So, can someone from the Club Admin explain under GDPR rules, how do I contact PK to get my data Deleted User.

there have been problems with the third-party text deployment service used to notify users of next week’s fuel prices which may have resulted in multiple text messages being sent to some users.
May?
MAY??
M A Y ? ?
M A Y ? ? ?
Is no-one listening out there? It definately HAS!

I had 69 texts today from pk in total, phone has never seen so much action!
The other worrying thing is I changed my card details over a month ago, 6 debits later and it is still being taken from the wrong account although it shows the 2nd card on the card details page !
I wonder why the club still promote such a hash up ? Who in the club organised this and put the shambles in place with their endorsement and branding ( it does have camc on the card).
The price they are now quoting is above anything including Esso in this area, and I know I don't have to use it but it has been a work of art over the marketing of this, perhaps they want to get into politics !
And to quote an average price and saving over 5 years, really ! How about someone from the club publishing these figures for us all to see and work it out for ourselves ? But then please have only been a UK company for a few months so how do they get 5 years figures ?
Too many questions and not enough clarity coming forwards from anyone.

51 texts received today. Does fiasco accurately describe the administration of this scheme?

You will need to write to PK and formally request a copy of the information they hold about you, then request they delete it. They should confirm this has been done within one calendar month. If you continue to receive communication after you have requested your contact information is Deleted User, you can then make a formal complaint to the Information Commisioners Office who may then pursue legal action.
Anyone who genuinely is concerned about Pump King holding their debit card details and you wish to cease using their service, you should contact your bank and request the card registered with PK is blocked and ask for a new card to be issued.
I did this today, then filmed a short time stamped video of me cutting up the Esso Card after I clearly filmed the card details prior to destroying it. This way, Pump King can’t claim my card has been used since this video has been recorded.

I agree, that is very concerning.

What is the right to erasure?
Under Article 17 of the GDPR individuals have the right to have personal data erased. This is also known as the ‘right to be forgotten’. The right is not absolute and only applies in certain circumstances.When does the right to erasure apply?
Individuals have the right to have their personal data erased if:- the personal data is no longer necessary for the purpose which you originally collected or processed it for;
- you are relying on consent as your lawful basis for holding the data, and the individual withdraws their consent;
- you are relying on legitimate interests as your basis for processing, the individual objects to the processing of their data, and there is no overriding legitimate interest to continue this processing;
- you are processing the personal data for direct marketing purposes and the individual objects to that processing;
- you have processed the personal data unlawfully (ie in breach of the lawfulness requirement of the 1st principle);
- you have to do it to comply with a legal obligation; or
- you have processed the personal data to offer information society services to a child.

I too have been bombarded with text messages, every couple of seconds they come through. I have had to switch my phone off to stop them, which is not ideal. I too went onto their web site to cancel my account and found the same, couldn't delete my personal data. I have read a post from Club admin that this has now been sorted (text messages) but I am still getting them. Will be interesting to read their announcement Monday morning, I do hope it has been resolved. I contacted Pump-King via e-mail, but I'm still awaiting their reply.

Firstly I think that we all need the reassurance that our data has not been compromised.
Secondly we need to know the process that needs to be followed as per the GDPR legislation to have our details permanently removed from the Pump King organisation and all other third party organisations to which our details have been passed on by Pump King Ltd and we need the assurance that the process has been completed.
Thirdly according to Pump King T&Cs;
9.Amendments
9.1These Terms and Conditions can only be amended if Pk Fuel Limited so agrees in writing by posting a notice on its website and / or by email notification to the Cardholder. Pk Fuel Limited will notify the Cardholder of any changes to these Terms and Conditions with 15 days' such prior written notice
Has any one ever had notification that the T&Cs have changed?
Lastly reggrding third parties needs clarification;
10.Third Parties
10.1 These Terms and Conditions are between Pk Fuel Limited and the Cardholder. No one other than the Cardholder and Pk Fuel Limited (and Pk Fuel Limited successors and permitted assignees) shall have any right to enforce any of these Terms and Conditions.
10.2 Pk Fuel Limited may transfer its rights and obligations under these Terms and Conditions to another organisation. The Cardholder may only transfer their rights or obligations under these Terms and Conditions to another person with Pk Fuel Limited's prior written consent.
The above questions have been asked previously but PK Ltd and the CMC have avoided answering them.
