It is nice, when we use our MH, to be able to stop and sleep the odd night somewhere safe and cheap, but we do this relatively easy now as it is, without using Club Sites. The difference for us is that we know we won’t have too many issues getting a small MH parked up in towns anywhere. So we can easily choose just to have the odd transit night on a pretty, safe, budget CL. If it proves a really nice, pretty, safe, budget CL, it becomes a regular stop, and sometimes we stay a few nights to explore the area. Done this with caravan as well.

The real issue is the size of the MH. If it’s too big for our small roads, car parking spaces, and those park ups that are protected by height barriers, then this country is more difficult than overseas. (Having witnessed a couple of traveller invasions, I have no issues with height barriers) If it’s so big that it’s left on pitch all stay, then to me it’s just a big (literally) white elephant, a MH that doesn’t Motor. Easier to deal with on site, but life is more difficult for getting around. Some Club Sites are excellent if this is the case, YRP, Bristol, Moreton, others with decent transport links. Others are more about getting out somewhere truly lovely, middle of National Park somewhere.

And that is my point TTDA, I do much the same but with a preference for CLs/CSs with hardstanding so the Club is losing out on a large chunk of what I spend on my motorhome nights away. If the Club wants to attract this revenue, then for short stays it has to make itself more attractive.

And then there are those really big caravans which need American style 4X4 vehicles to pull them, I think they are called 5th Wheeler Caravans. Will they also want special pitches exclusive to them?

To be truthful Peedee I am happy that there are CLs that meet your need and are happy that they get your trade. Your money might not be going directly into CC coffers but many use the club partly or primarily to access these CLs. I rarely use them these days and probably not in the last twenty years but value them highly as I used many in the past and I suspect will start to use the odd one to fill in gaps on tours in future.

My point entirely, what's in the name as that is all it is? We are all in the same 'boat' together and clearly our vans can live alongside each other quite happily. It's some owners which cause the issues.

Those 5th wheeler caravans need no special attention and are not barred from any sites as long as I'm aware  although there may be the odd pitch that these caravans and a some larger motorhomes may have some difficulties. There are a few sites which do preclude longer units but this applies to all types of  vans be they caravans or motorhomes.

This whole thread by the "nothing is done"by the club for motor caravanners, posters, has mostly been it seems , that the club should make available to motor caravans a "cheap"stopover on club sites without any, it seems thought, as to in the real world it could be implemented ,and anything that works "over there"is easy to export to the UK,  when over here, it is not the way it is ,and with much shorter distances and the higher cost of providing such facilities, it will not be the the nevania some hope for

Indeed the American Style motorhome I saw 10 years ago at Cheltenham towing a Range Rover might have had problems on some sites

CL sites exist alongside the Club's low facilitiy sites with out going out of business so what makes you thing it would force the closure of CLs just because the Club provides a few more low facility pitches or sites for motorhomes.

What makes you think I would not use them Corners?

I doubt in truth it’s much about price. PD, unless I am mistaken has quite a large MH? Large to me would be 7 metres plus? I would be more wary of grass pitches in this country, with a larger heavier MH. We choose our CLs wisely, but because we are quite small, and have gone to the trouble of purchasing suitable waffles, we have extended the range of CLs we can use. Plus we are wise enough to phone a site if the weather forecast doesn’t look too good. What we have learned as well, is that quite a few CLs are happy for members to utilise whatever HS might be available, if it’s a short stay, and your hook up cable reaches! Hence we have parked up next to tanks, farm vehicles, barns etc.... just to sleep and park safely.

I don’t care about Club losing out on too much of what we spend, purely because most Club Sites are not what we consider our perfect site. A stunning location, solitude, being close to nature, peace and quiet are the things we don’t mind paying for. Very occasionally, usually in the Winter months, somewhere like Bolton Abbey Site, we could find this. Sadly no more, Club Site seasons are getting shorter.

I don’t think it matters what folks use for touring/staying. The main thing is that there are places that suit every conceivable type of outfit, at least fairly mainstream. Some of the Club Sites won’t suit certain outfits, but others will. Some CLs/CS Sites won’t suit everything. But there are plenty of options out there for everyone.

Reminds me of coming back from a day out, to find an absolutely enormous self built MH rig parked up on CL. What interested us was the automated self levelling system. We had total respect for these all year tourers, they had negotiated a seriously tight roadway and entrance, were parked up on grass. Nothing seemed to phase them. We had a real good chat with them. It was the kind of CL where you just picked your space, and that was your pitch. Our enormous neighbours were very considerate and didn’t shade our little caravan.😄

The crux of the original post is still not answered, motorhome services at club sites are woefully inadequate. If has taken 32 years to get a few grates for grey water draining rather than a 'manhole cover' then that shows to continuing 'caravan' attitude to club site refurbishments.

Even the latest refurbishments only allow partial tank emptying or filling due to the slope at the designated 'motorhome service points' (Tewkesbury, Dunnet Bay)

We often have to go against the 'one way' systems to drain our grey water tanks or fill with fresh water due to the lack of a suitable layout a the service area.

I saw one a few years back which was pulling a Romahome motorhome. Now that's covering all options! However, when issues are concerned regarding getting on to pitches it's the dimensions which dictate not the type of unit. That's why on these sites the club states dimensions which necessitate restrictions and not type.

I still can't think of one single site which would be wrong for me just because I have a motorhome and certainly none which should in effect ban them.

If folk want cheaper pitches then the CL can be ideal. Obviously cheaper pitches on CC sites would reduce their appeal.

Many CLs are in the £12 to £15 range. They must lose trade where a non faci;ty CC site is nearby I suspect

    because you said:

CLs/CSs with hardstanding so the Club is losing out on a large chunk of what I spend on my motorhome nights away. If the Club wants to attract this revenue...

I assumed, perhaps wrongly that you would expect others to follow your example so if the club attracted this revenue that would have gone to CLs, the CLs lose income don't they?

I think it is safe to assume that if the club did use this approach CL would lose out and may have to shut.

What makes you think I would not use them Corners?

You really are the master of not answering questions, does that 'answer' mean you would use them or would not? It's a simple question, can you answer yes or no? If you can't...

I made exactly this point about CLs the last time this topic was raised. The response was that the folk who wanted "quick turnaround" pitches (or whatever label one wants to use) were a completely different set of people from those who use CLs. My conclusion is that there are folk who join the club, don't like their sites and don't like CLs. I'm sure they'd be equally quick to find something to object to if the club ever did decide to provide what they're asking for. frown

But then motor caravans were few and far between in 1967 it is only in the last few years that there has been any real increase in ownership, whereas they have been more prevelant ."over there"but even then it was hit and miss when we did some countries, with what was available and despite what some say, I understand it still is

And as the majority of sites  of both major uk clubs are leased it is not as some would expect, easy to get parts of sites "altered"for what is not part of the inclusive ethos of this club

The Crux of the original post seems to have been that aire type facilities are required. This is a forum and as such has been answered by a number of posters.

well it has been answered buy the large amount of MH that use club sites, if they were so bad as you describe they would go elsewhere?

Don't get this drive around thing, I though MH lasted for days without having to visit the SP, so driving around a real problem?

I said but they are sold as UK campsites. No, no said the German they are much too basic. Aires said the French lady, no café, no shop and far from commerce.

So only sites ' not far from commerce' are acceptable. As far as no café, no shop that is what users probably like. There are alternatives

They most certainly are required but not a provision on club sites it seems to me. That appears to be the call of many here.
