I have been thinking long and hard about this non-book drive-in drive-out overnight stop place with almost no facilities concept, because I realise "I have been there before" in another life. They are just truck stops for caravans.
They weren't fun then, they don't look any better now, and I won't be going to them in future - even if you paid me. Which they actually did in the bad old days, but it wasn't much.

Also think there will be a lot of happy ones - those who continue to tour in the UK using a variety of pitch providers.

I do not think an "attack"has been noted in any posts , where a wrong post (quite a few) has been entered by a non member it would only be too remind them that in their position , the post was quite wide of understanding what was, it seems the majority of members are more in touch with

Such a shame I think that HO staff do not get more involved in CT to clarify things members are discussing that go on for page after page becoming somewhat heated at times. I noticed Esso Card offer generated responses from HO. 5days. 491 posts up to now. Is this a record I wonder.

The frequency of such events is a total irrelevance, the caravan club is surely the premier caravan and motorhome site provider along with the C&CC. To expect the caravan club to endorse provision of pitches with significantly less clearances than 6m, let alone to provide them, is IMO, laughable

One thing that the last couple of years has taught me is that we should be careful of what we wish for.
As already pointed out up thread is the introduction of Aire space which could take up that currently used for arrivals, car parking, LNAs or possibly that fish and chip van!.
I also have concerns about the number of sites on the network which have the capacity to support these without major development and reduction in current provision. More importantly though would be the identification of those sites which would be 'right' for it, those making such decisions and the reasons justifying these. (Please don't tell me which sites are in the wrong place for me and motorhomers in general).
Finally, a word of caution and maybe a real concern. This being the linking of such a notion with that of booking a minimum of multiple nights on 'proper' pitches either across the network or on those sites identified by the few as being 'ripe'. In my opinion all this would totally change the ethos of our touring club, create more division and would be detrimental to many of us.5 -

And since 1967, which is well over 50 years, the use of motor caravans has been part of the club ethos. These have ranged from the converted car-derived van to hugh behomeths requiring a tractor unit to move them around. Quite a few sites, some of them Caravan Club, have embraced caravans that are static as well. And all have lived happily together.
Then just a few years ago, along come people wanting to be called "motorhomers" for some reason, and to be treated differently. I'm lost as to why they want to mix with caravanners at all.

Nav, I call mine a motorhome purely because the abbreviation MH is easy. If I started typing MC you’d think I meant motorcycle.
No way can my 6m PVC be classed as a motorhome in most people’s minds.

I am sure that anyone reading some of the stuff on this thread would think some sort of “ism” to protect the rights of caravanners and motorhome owners is required. But in the real world, out there on the roads, pitched amongst the daffodils, (or in some cases the Aldi deliveries), it simply isn’t. The vast majority of owners happily choose their site, pitch up safely and comfortably and just get on doing their own thing. The Club provides, improves and evolves for all its members much as it has done down the decades. Some will like and embrace the changes, some will grumble but get used to them, others will decide it’s not for them and leave.
Yorkshire is starting to recognise that some tourers in MHs appreciate overnight stops. Both Pickering and Helmsley now have overnight provision within a couple of hundred metres of town centres, and I am sure there are a good few more examples. I will set up a thread and list them as we find them with details. There are some “traditional” stop off places for caravans as well, for taking a breather on a long journey.
