Not quite the same thing as being suggested by the OP. The businesses you mention have an eye to the main chance and hope to attract more customers to their establishments. Seems a sensible option. However they are not stand alone Aires which to be successful would have to at least make a minimal return on investment and I would suggest that would be questionable. The only way the Club could move in that direction is when they open a new site they could designate a area just for motorhomes. However if people think that would be a cheap option I suggest they think again!

But the OP's point was that he wanted Aire type stops in the UK. As I said previously I do not know of any equivalents in the UK. As mentioned by Rufs there are a few pubs that offer similar facilities but the aim there is to provide an additional customer base for the pub. Does anybody know of a barrier controlled, with payment point, Aire in the UK?

sometimes we just want to break the journey or briefly visit a town and have a minimum requiremnt for the overnighter?
sometimes we want to put our feet up after a week of touring and stay on a site for a few days enjoying a pool, bar, nice to sit out pitches?
the former should be anything between free and £10, the latter perhaps £20 or more.

First of all you 'pesky customers' need to address the providers or likely providers. Not sure that the CC is the right target for that. There are some LAs that make some provision using their car parks. Chester does with a P&R and The Little Roodee car park. Others don't

This highlights a point I made earlier. If folk are only willing to pay these sort of figures for a purpose built Aire, where is the incentive for an investor to put money in. It costs more in most cities to park a car for 24 hours. So why a barrier controlled facility, with water and waste provision, which is going to require at least minimal servicing, should be cheaper, is a mystery to me.
Any cash strapped local authority would have to be confident of a real return on investment. Not some vague figures based on increased spending in shops, bars and attractions.

What sort of investment would it take to build a network of aires then discriminate against the other members of the club who tow?
Seriously though, us warden folk have had some input into what could be done to meet peoples needs (as the op suggests) on our sites. Can't give anymore info as I'm out of the loop until May

The Little Roodee in Chester charges £5 after 5pm but you have to leave at 7am or pay an extra £4 up to 10am or pay the £5 after 5pm and then £5.80 to stay the next day (not sure up to what time might be 5pm). Sleeping in motorhomes or camper vans is permitted

Service still applies - no cars by pitch and the reason that I will not use the site (along with minimum 1 week booking when I might have considered using it)
For guests convenience, all caravans are pitched and levelled by a member of staff, using our small tractor. At the end of your holiday, we also take the caravan from your pitch and hitch it to the back of your car.
We do not allow vehicles on to the grassed areas of the park, cars are also not permitted to park on the pitches, even temporarily, you may park your car in the road way in front of your pitch briefly whilst you load and unload, but this should not be for prolonged periods. Your car should then be moved to the car park.

well the site roads are quite narrow and probably designed when caravans were much smaller, so by doing the pitching themselves it stops people destroying the grass verges etc, how many times have i seen that on club sites, so yes it is of help to the owners as they dont have to keep repairing the verges, first time we visited had just had knee replacement so help was most welcome

I thought i had read somewhere that Bath Chew had been bought by the CAMC, could be wrong ?, surely if it is CAMC rules etc have changed.
The site was an affiliated site when I considered it a few years ago. Presume it still is but not checked
