Travelling with pets

Hi everybody. We are fairly new to motorhoming and are hoping to travel from Spain to UK this summer via Ireland. We have two cavalier king charles spaniels with up to date Spanish passports. Can anybody help with what formalities we would need to follow. First ferry would be Santander to Cork, then Larne to Cairnryan and then either Eurotunnel or ferry to France.

Obviously all seems to be in the air at the moment because of Brexit but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Kathy and welcome.

Check out the ‘sticky’ threads in the Overseas section. There is a lot of info there including a fair bit on travelling with pets in ‘Travelling After Brexit’.

just make sure you have the correct rabies certificates for your dogs, there is a lot of conflicting information doing the rounds at present, but from a UK perspective if we crash out of the EU then there is every possibility that dogs travelling to the continent will need a certificate to say that the dogs have had a blood test that has been checked to ensure they have the correct level of Rabies anti bodies in their blood, just because your dog is up-to-date with his rabies jobs does not mean they have the correct level of anti bodies, ours didnt, and the whole process to get him re vacinated/blood tests etc took nearly 5 months, so we started the process last December but will not be able to travel until end of April, we are leaving the UK on 26th March just in case Brexit goes wrong. My daughter who has a dog and lives in Spain says the rabies blood test is done as a matter of course in Spain, it used to be done in the UK but stopped some years ago. Good luck
