What, exactly, does "MH access" mean
As a soon-to-be motorhomer, I am slightly confused by the bit in the 2019 Handbook that gives extra information about some supermarkets, for example "Asda 4m (MH access)". I can't find anywhere that explains what criteria they have used to provide this information, and searching the site using that term comes up with nothing, so I guess it hasn't been explained here before

There are one or two that say they have height restrictions, one that says "no MH access" and loads that don't say anything at all. Surely someone must have used some set of criteria for making the assessment.

Must admit that my first thought related to height restrictions. Can't get at the handbook at the moment as it's in the MH; is this relating purely to supermarkets? I'd have thought supermarkets were all accessible to MHs, apart from some of the smaller ones perhaps in town centres. No idea what criteria have been used for it.
Perhaps an idea to have a look at the one which said "no MH access" on Google Earth, maybe that will give a clue.

I can't see my handbook just now but like InaD I'd agree that most supermarkets have M/H access with one or two exceptions. I'm not sure why the Club are including these details as there are likely to be other shopping options in any given area.

I’ve not yet met a supermarket that wasn’t accessible with a MH, or accessible by whitevanman, or an ambulance, or a fire engine……

Just had a look at Cirencester. Waitrose is the closest supmarket, which is says is MH accessible. There are certainly no height barriers but the car park is not huge and is fairly tight in places. It would depend on the size of the MH, however personally I think a better suggestion would have been the Tesco, a mile or so further away but with a huge car park, which always seems to have plenty of room. The Tesco is not mentioned.

I notice that Club Sites have mention of nearest supermarkets in handbook.

I said I've not yet encountered an inaccessible supermarket, TT, and I've never been to Stockport. 😆

You need to get out more.........

I think I can cope with not visiting Stockport 😀

Yes, that's where the original question came from. What criteria do they use to make the MH access recommendation and, I guess, why isn't there a Yes or No note on all the supermarkets instead of a haphazard sometimes there is sometimes there isn't?

It obviously depends on how large your motorhome is but I don't think I would rely on the access information without making my own checks which would mainly involve using Google Earth. A panel van conversion up to six metres is likely to get in anywhere where you can park a large 4X4 but anything over 7 metres long requires a bit more research. You also need to check, especially with a longer van, that you can through park rather than all the parking bays being limited to the length of the average car.
