Hi! Looking to insure a new van. Received a few quotes. One from MyInsurance with Building Block Insurance being the insurers. Anyone heard of them or had any dealings? Their quote is coming in at a very good price.

Never go for the cheapest, usually means they don't like paying out.  I have looked at many different sites, and you will get scores of different answers to this post, but do yourself a favour and insure through the CAMC.  They will not be the cheapest, but are not too restrictive on things like trackers and lots of security items, but most importantly have a first class track record in paying out quickly on fair claims. PS I have nothing to do with the CAMC other than being a member.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look. After some research I have found out that Building Block Insurance are based in Malta!

Have a look at the thread in this section, a little big bit lower than this one called Caravan Insurance. It may help with your decision. Plus there is one in the "Tips for cheaper touring" section called Best Insurers. Both threads fairly new.

Plus there is another in Club Products section. All have a variety of views.

Check out both Clubs. We have found CCC consistently better and cheaper. You don’t have to be a member. We had a bad experience taking out insurance with Club, took it out for our new to us MH. Then the demands for this that and the other regarding our other vehicles commenced. Email copies not good enough either, so at that point we told CAMC we were going elsewhere, had had enough. We seldom consider this Club now, just look at other options.

We don’t use any insurer for anything without checking them out first, it’s a bit like the dodgy energy suppliers, do your homework. If it looks unusually cheap, it might be for a bad reason! The test will come when you have to make a claim. But if the basics of setting up a policy are onerous, imagine making a claim........

Others swear by Club Insurance, probably didn’t have the experience we did.

I had not heard of them and they are based in Malta to take advantage of preferential operating conditions. I would go with someone who at least I have heard of and avoid the cheapest quotes as they normally mean less cover or service.

Make sure the policy has DEFAQTO 5 star rating for the best cover.

The club policy is very good but expensive. We save over £100 by using the C&CC policy which gives similar cover.

We have been with the CAMC (CC) for years - had one claim in that time and settled faultlessly.  But things can change.  Had to move our present vehicle (VW Caravelle) to another insurer to save £1,000 against the renewal quote.  Unfortunately, our caravan renewal expires on 11 July - the day after we return from France - which means we cannot get a quote from the C&CC within the 30 day rule.  Unless the quote was so good that we could change earlier and lose just over a month's premium on the CC policy.   Have to admit, I have become a bit  complacent where the caravan insurance is concerned, so checking around would not be a bad thing.

You do have a 14 day cooling off period after renewal. I would speak to the to make them aware of the position and say that you will have to look at this when you return.
