Cragside (NT) motorhome friendly
Was looking at the National Trust website for Cragside in Northumberland as we are planing a day trip there tomorrow, and I found this:
Designated parking area for campervans and motorhomes cars with trailers with a free pick-up and drop-off shuttle service
https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cragside#Facilities%20and%20access
Hope this is useful for anyone visiting Northumberland?
Do any other NT places offer this?

The car parking at Lanhydroc in Cornwall was greatly improved a few years ago and one car park now allows parking for coaches, caravans and MHs. I don’t think they have a shuttle service but I have met that elsewhere.
It looks as if the NT are becoming aware of the need for parking larger vehicles.👍🏻

Cragside is well used to MHs. You will need to check if you can drive up and around grounds though,as you can with a car. It involves driving through an arch via house, and we couldn’t get our very small MH through. Avoid rainy days, it’s absolutely packed and you end up shuffling round. Midges up by lakes are horrendous as well in Summer. But a very good visit if you go prepared 😀

I think most NT places have improved their welcome to visitors. We used to visit Cragside a lot when my sister and family lived up that way, sounds like the car parks have expanded a lot since then. Will no doubt return when we visit our son and family, the family seem to have played musical chairs in this part of the world!
I regularly see motorhomes parked up in our local NT places and I think most of the NT SW coastal car parks are accommodating too.
I don't think many car parks are so far out they need a shuttle bus service but they'll give you a lift in a buggy if needed.

Not to do with Cragside but the Park & Ride for Durham City which is just of the A1 on the A690 (junc 62) has 5 parking bays for motorhomes and caravans, although long 'van outfits might struggle. Buses every 10 mins into the city centre.

should there be a sticky' for these places?

We visited Cragside in October with a small and medium sized motorhome. If you go to the main entrance you are redirected to a different car park, probably a couple of miles away by road. The minibus to the main house came around every 20 to 30 minutes. This is free and also accepts dogs.
The driver was very helpful and told us of a nice walk through the woods behind the house which was “off-road” all the way back to the car park. This probably took about 25 minutes at a relaxed pace. To follow the road would have been a bit quicker.
Even my van conversion was too big to drive around the estate so that will wait for bikes on another visit
Great place to visit.

I drove round one of the smaller roads back when I had the tow car. Bonus was spotting a red squirrel as we did so.

It’s that arch through the house that stops anything larger than a car getting round the estate roads. There are some good lakeside walks up there though, away from all the heaving crowds down by the house. It was so busy one time we went, we didn’t stay, found a nice castle out on Moors instead.

We have a lot of visitors with motorhomes at Bodiam Castle, where I’m a volunteer. Plenty of large spaces, and additional space on grassy areas (some adjacent to the river) at busy times, plus easy access from the road as there’s no long, narrow drive to negotiate. Just make sure you approach through the village from the north rather than down the narrow winding lanes & over the bridge from Staplecross. Having said that, I did get stuck behind a coach that managed to make its way via that route one day so, if you do find yourself going that way, no need to panic.
If you’re down in East Sussex, do pop in and see us.

I’m new to motorhoming and are single. I love dancing and walking. I always end up at either Blackpool or Lytham.
is there anyone out there that would like to meet up for a walk or dance?
also, can you recommend any good sites over in those two areas?
look forward to hearing from you
