What constitutes an awning?

Could be a photo of an image hence questionable date. I've taken similar photos myself one of my parents and 'us' brothers as kids on a camp site time dated 2017. Some 50 year out of date but a cracking digital record of past times now stored up in the 'cloud'.

I would doubt the awning on the back of a very short caravan would be a problem on non awning pitches. The rule there is no awning on the side of an outfit. One on the back does not cause a problem provided you have the outfit within the length of the pitch. Possibly best to speak to the warden first though.

I thought NT took it back in around 2006, because there was a big thing in some of local papers
I think that you could well be right about the date, tda. I can only find Reviews for the C&CC site from 2005 and before.

Just to throw in another perspective:-
At Bunree all the lochside pitches are non-awning. As they also are at Garlieston. I thought this was so that people didn't spoil the view of the row behind.
Up at Bunree a couple of years ago, a large motorhome on the front row pulled out the canopy and zipped in the sides. Mmm. Isn't that an awning?
I didn't say anything. I was up there for several weeks and had benefitted hugely from all the motorhomes that went off during the day, giving me an uninterrupted view.
But canopy + sides - isn't that an awning?

I suspect that the front row no awnings is more likely to be “it’ll blow away” rather than blocking views. As some using StAgnes found a few years ago.

Thats exactly what we do, book an awning pitch, as we have a privacy screen that blocks a side view into our sliding door.Which we often have open. Whether we put out the canopy we still always book awning pitch. Except at Bunree.
Prefer the lochside pitches.

This is all really helpful, thanks. I've never done this before either, and I was wondering the same thing. My little Go-Pod has a sun/rain canopy that fixes at the back, but I haven't yet had a chance to put it up. With the Go-Tarp up the total length is around 7m but the Pod is less than 2m wide. I'm going to assume, therefore, that I don't need an awning pitch although I understand it'd be sensible to make sure I get an 8m long pitch.
I wouldn't want to book an awning pitch if I don't need one as I might be taking the place from other campers for whom it's essential.

Er, I think that might be the wrong decision, HeatherPod !!
My camper is only 5.41 metres long and does not need a car obviously so I'm a small unit in caravanning terms and I've taken to booking Standard With Awning pitches. I'm sure I'm not robbing other folks of a pitch, but a bit of room ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,

I agree with ABM. You could regret choosing non-awning and wardens might prohibit the erection of your canopy on some sites. Sometimes non-awning pitches are in less desirable areas of sites - but not always.

Oh rats. Well I don't want to upset anybody (specially myself) on my very first CC site so I'll amend that then. I assumed it was all about the 3m fire break but seems there's more to it than that.
The booking form requires the length of my outfit, so I put 7m just to make sure of enough length for the Go-Tarp. It's likely I'll need a rain porch in Devon in March/April!1 -
That little Pod is quite something! Enjoy your trips.

Quite agree, TW, it looks a little beauty
Just one more thing, Heather :-- On arrival at your first Club Site chat to the wardens and I am positive that they will look at your outfit & give you all the information / advice that you need. We on here cannot really, in all honesty, give you that advice just from a photograph.
Happy Times Ahead !!

The nub of it, surely, is the occupancy of the space that would normally be taken by the tow car. It's about time the CAMC clarified this issue once and for all. Perhaps someone can report this post to bring it to the attention of the powers that be.

One thing to remember, not all non awning pitches are size limited; some are non awning because you can't hammer pegs into the surface, because it is paved, concrete or tarmac.
For example, Chapel Lane, new non awning pitches at Tewkesbury Abbey and others.

Hi everyone and welcome to Club Together Tio75.
To confirm, no awnings of any shape or size will be allowed on a standard non-awning pitch (caravan or motorhome). However, a motorhome may put out a sun canopy as long as the spacing is maintained. If a member breaches the required spacing, they should be requested to wind the canopy in sufficiently to achieve the 3 metre gap.
This would not apply to a caravan as this outfit will be accompanied by a car and therefore cannot achieve the spacing with a canopy.
I hope this helps.
