The second and last of this short second series on London's Crossrail was broadcast on BBC2 tonight. I have found it absolutely fascination. The complexities of its construction and fitting out are amazing. I can understand why there has been a delay in opening!

I enjoyed watching it, impressive engineering skills all round. Expensive yes and I'm not sure I want to travel much further into the depths of London!

Most major infrastructure projects seem to run over estimate. Obviously the more complex it is, which is certainly true of Crossrail, I suspect the more likely it is to go over budget. Some seem to think it will be about two billion more than first thought but hasn't the project been going for over ten years?  About 14% over budget doesn't seem that much for such a complex thing.

I thought that HS2 had already started , at least the preparatory work? That will be wonderful when its finished and I expect they will make many programmes about that!!!

Just so that Brummies can knock twenty minutes or so off their commute to London. Yeah, a real bargain.

There is quite a possibility that the plug could be pulled on HS2 as apart from the already over budget cost now ,to save the costs going  into the stratosphere the speeds are to be reduced and less trains are to be ordered for a reduced timetablesurprised

It’s a doomed vanity project. Wouldn’t trust CG to get anything right, he’s an utter disaster at every role he has been given. It’s not wanted up here, what is required is decent cross Pennine links, far more urgent.

Unfortunately it doesn't even stop in Birmingham itself it goes towards Solihull. So another journey is involved. (Bonkers!)

So when they eventually make the programme about the HS2 it looks as if it will be quite excitingwink
