What is a standard pitch?
Yes I am new to the Motor home world, looking at booking first sites and come across the option serviced or standard, can someone in very simple terms tell me the difference, we do need electric hook up, which I think the standard has, but serviced ?

The vast majority of pitches on club sites have hook up. In fact, it’s rare not to have EHU.
Serviced pitches (costing around £4 per night more) have their own fresh water taps and grey water drains but usually not chemical toilet emptying points. Motorhomers with onboard tanks generally find they do not need serviced pitches although some use them.
Service points will be found scattered around the site providing fresh water taps, grey water drains and toilet cassette emptying points.
In addition, the majority of sites have motorhome service points, of varying quality, providing the above facilities with the addition of drive over drains. MH owners should use these rather than block site roads by attempting to use ordinary service points to fill and empty tanks.
On the subject of pitches, there are also awning and non-awning pitches at the same price. Choose whichever suits you. There is no compulsion to erect an awning on an awning pitch and they are often more spacious and better positioned on most (but not all) sites.
It is not currently possible to specify a grass or hardstanding pitch when you book. It's pot luck.
Hope that helps.

A standard pitch in club terms is a space to put your outfit on, and could be grass or hardstanding. Also it could be awning or non awning, but that doesn't mean they are necessarily different sizes, just the distance between the pitches could change due to fire safety regulations. You normally get EHU on a standard pitch
A service pitch, again either grass or HS (but many are HS) is usually big enough for an awning but has it's own water supply and drain, so you could have 'running water' in your outfit with appropriate adaptors and waste pipes and no aqua rolls/wastemasters or filling and emptying of tanks. There are also super serviced which also has a point to empty your cassette toilet.
There have been long discussions about the extra charge, whether motor homes need them (but they are popular with MHs) but only you can decide if they are for you.
Personally I love them.
post edit Sorry was typing after TW posted , wot he said!

Ha, ha! Yes, very similar. I kept editing just to confuse you!
You love em, Corners, and the advantage is greater, to my mind, with a caravan.

also should have said again, this is on club sites, other non club sites have various terms, (standard, large, super...) which vary from one site to another, what might be 'standard' or 'super' on one site will be different in size to another site.
And of course some sites have these strange new age ideas about booking a HS or even a specific pitch (yes weird I know)

or on some just scrubland even

The non-club site scenario can also apply on the club's affiliated sites (AS) which are commercial sites rather than club owned/operated sites. They do their own thing.
Then there are CLs……
Gee, who said this game was simple?

there should be a monopoly version of club sites, Super serviced pitches for Mayfair and Park Lane, over there sites for the brown Old Kent road bits (as of course it is sooo much cheaper over there).
Toilets block for the utilities and free parking becomes free dog parking.
For me of course the go to jail cards would be replaced with CLs

Just in case MalcMc is now confused, it may well be worth looking at the official explanation here:

Rather than standard pitch, I think I would prefer Concert Grand.

I always think it’s a hoot that the club uses a pic of Wood Farm AS to head an article about club pitches. 😂😂😂

Many thanks to all speedy replies, fully answered, it is a club site we have chosen, wanted something safe as our first outing to learn about new motor home, been on the website for a while gathering tips from you all, can I just add very usual to a new guy.

Good luck, Malc. Enjoy your MH.

Welcome Malc. If you haven’t got your handbook yet, it can all seem a bit confusing, but all the factual stuff you need is in there. If you click on UK Sites above, top left, there is all sorts of information about types of pitches as well.
All depends on how you want to use your MH. If you intend parking up on site and don’t mind paying extra, a serviced pitch might suit. If you are out and about in your MH most days, and can fill and empty your tanks as you come or go, then possibly a waste of money. All about what suits you best. Enjoy!

standard pitches will be fine, and if you've got decent sized fresh and waste tanks, once filled, you'll be fine for many a day, especially if using the site facilities...
as others have mentioned, SP don't hold the same attraction for many MHers.
with a full fresh tank we 'manage' for 5/6 days, even if showering in the van, using site facs means around double that.....so, no need for an SP.
could be handy for a (very) long stay if included in pitch, but at £3.90 a night on a club site, no thanks....we wouldn't stay on a club site that long, anyway.

Wouldn't it be nice if 'service pitches' meant that someone pitched your van for you, plumbed you in to the water mains and drainage, put up your awning and then cooked your tea on the BBQ whilst you sipped on a cool beer?!?! Or is this taking a service pitch to a new level? Maybe they should come with your own butler?
We've booked in to service pitches this year for the first time to try them. We only get away a few times a year so we thought 'why not?' Although I think our small two berth van will look a little lost on some of the service pitch pitches that I've seen......we'll just have to spread our chairs out a little!

thanks, I'll put you down for a pre order?

Hi, Malcolm, one thing to check is the length of your hook up cable. Some standard pitches share EHU bollards so you will need a 25m one to ensure it will reach the correct EHU on every pitch on every site. Some manufacturers are now supplying 20m ones, obviously a cost cutting exercise!
Enjoy

Your pitch has a fifth wheeler. Landing on that pitch is quadruple fee.
