So ironic! Last year, on the very day that the Club announced the new rolling booking programme, I thought great, I will book a birthday treat at YRP. Nothing showing on calendar, so I duly booked our three nights, thinking  how nice it will be, as we seldom stay in York. Remarked to my OH this morning about what we should do, what to go and see.

Just had an email from Club, the Environment Agency are closing all the approach road on the very day of our arrival, 4th March, until 9th March! Nothing Club can do about it, no alternative route in for caravans and MHs. So, my well planned birthday treat has gone for a burton😂 At least the Club have given us as much notice as they could, and it’s out of their control. There will no doubt be others affected, which is why I am posting.

O H will be panicking now, he’s got to get his thinking cap on for my treat now!🤔🤣

It won’t be Beechwood Grange.

Surely it should not affect the arrivals as there is the Emergency flood exit/entrance at the rear of the site that can be used to keep the site open, surprised just needs a bit of co-operation  with those involvedundecided

The email says that using the rear gate from Vine street has been looked at and it is not suitable. I have used this exit twice in an emergency but we only have a Coachman 450 and weaving through the parked cars in a narrow street was not easy and I would not want to do it with a bigger outfit.

What a shame.  Sorry that your well planned treat has been spoilt.  How about a nice couple of days in a hotel in the city instead?

    A dog friendly hotel, obviously.

Sorry to hear that, TDA. I’m sure others will find the info regarding the closure of use as well.

Sorry to hear this news TDA, I had a look on line and the EA are doing flood improvement work. Maybe this will stop the site closing a bit less in the future? Hope you find a nice alternative, I share your disappointment, I would feel miffed after making plans.

Op states the approach road is not available and there is no alternative route.

That emergency route out is one heck of a squeeze for even a small outfit, and whilst local residents might tolerate an emergency evacuation of the site JVB, I doubt they could live with outfits in and out all hours of day for a week, I know I would be miffed.

Club have got it right as far as I am concerned, given members as much notice as they can after considering all options, and it’s just hard luck for those few days. Hopefully long term benefit of EA work will make things better for all visitors, we know how York suffers with floods.

York was only a fall back, but OH is on case already. I was just amused that after finally getting booked in at this honeypot, 11 month on, it wasn’t to be.

It could be an omen. Perhaps my destiny will be a day out at Chester Zoo instead!😀 or a nice cottage…Dartmoor...........🥳😁

Because as usual these days, lets chose the easy way to do things rather than ,thinking about any customer service, undecided hence the members quite short notice cancellations when this work by the EA must have been planned some time agosmile

We walked Vine Street last year during our stay, permit parking for residents up both sides of street, leaving a car width for things to pass through. It isn’t a good option, and if the Club suggested it, I am sure some members, and all the residents would be horrified. Club have made the best decision possible.

😱A refuse vehicle once a week is not the same as a dozen bloody caravans and motorhomes per hour all vying to get in and out. It would be absolute bedlam in a City already chock full of lost tourists!

I am perfectly understanding of the decision the Club has had to make, and whether they are compensated or not doesn’t really bother me. I only posted to let others know of the work that was happening.👍

    It’s my age DD!😂😂

Its academic now. Looking very like a trip to Beddgelert for a week. £140 for seven nights compares very nicely with £106 for three at York.

    You win JVB🤣

Wouldn’t know, but then I’ve never been in one. Yorkshire designed to part the gullible from their tourist spending money🤣 works very well. A bit too full with Japanese and Americans usually. The discerning visitor does high tea in a vintage railway carriage at NRM..........😂😂😂

I was rather hoping they may compensate with a free night voucher for the cancellations, but it appears unlikely.

Bet you're wondering why you bothered posting this thread as a warning to others aren't you Ttda? You would think you'd committed some heinous crime. That'll teach you to bother trying to help others.smile

Why should anybody think that a heinous crime was commited WN? I just did not want anybody put off using Rowntree Park ..... not a site I personally would use.

As the e-mail to advise of the closure was sent to the people already booked and the site shows full over the said period,  I just thought the op was just a story  other members would not be affectedsurprised
