Early arrivals - my solution

In the uk i do not think ,that a "flexible" arrival time is going to alter the "must get there to set up" mentality of what must be a large portion of the membership,it will just mean as is noted on other posts of members arriving earlier even before site offices open, there were 14 arrivals waiting for the office to open one Saturday at Hillhead

Causing a traffic problem?
Why can't wardens report? It puts so much pressure on wardens. But office hours aren't overly long, that's not wardens fault but CAMC trying to run for profit😉. Which is invested wisely for the benefit of members 😉😉

I like that idea guys!

If you arrive before 12.00 and the warden lets you in, then it follows you can leave after 12.00 stuff the rules😃

I haven't read all of this thread so apologies if this has been discussed already.
i understand why hotels have an earliest check in time as they need to clean rooms after departure.
But I have often thought that there is no need for a caravan site to follow the same protocol as the pitch does not need serviced. It's probably that way because 'it's aye been'.
Technology could help by using self service check in machines, releasing the wardens to other duties.
Yes, it would need investment but what doesn't these days?

lets have a trial of arriving when you like.
So at what time of day do the club set the charging point for your period of stay
6am. 11 am. mid day, 14.00hrs or what?
If I arrive at say 17.00hrs day one and leave 08.00 hrs, on day 4 am I to pay the same as one who arrives 08.00 hrs and departs at 17.00hrs?
Secondly what about those sites with restricted access? There is one in the west country where they have a traffic light control system so if you arrive too early you are left hanging about on the road until the entrance drive is clear. That could create problems if it has to be manned all day long to control members traffic movements.

Or 'online check-in' the day before arrival, with a card payment.... a la Premier Inn
Just for those that are not aware, Premier Inn send an email to you inviting you to check in online 24 hours prior, you pay and a bar code is sent to your mobile device. Arrive at hotel and using a machine, scan device and a key card with details of your room number is churned out.
No need for any of this gubbins, just a payment taken and an email with instructions on how to pitch together with a site plan emailed to you, together with a keypad number to raise a barrier perhaps? Drive straight in, find pitch... easy? no?
Queue the doubters?

I don't think (but I may be wrong) that anyone is suggesting a 24 hour charge where, if you arrive at 3 pm you can leave up to 3 pm the next day (although some continental Aires do that).
My thoughts are to have an arrivals window that is not unsociable to others, say 10 am to 8 pm (or other suitable period). You would pay for one day and have to leave by 12 noon next day, unless otherwise by arrangement.
Other challenges of particular sites could be worked around.
It may not suit everyone but some would like it and I can't see that it would disadvantage anyone.

The biggest congestion issue would seem to be the "best pitch" search. Just find an empty pitch and park on it for goodness sake.

Some times traffic is better that we expected when travelling to a site.
So some times we arrive earlier than planned this can't always be helped. (not that it does happen often)
If there is space and the wardens are happy to let us on early then great. If not we just wait until the correct time.
For us it's all about arriving safely, having a relaxing break and seeing as many of our countries towns and cities. With meeting new people on the way.

You’ve arrived late this time Michpiggy, this thread is 2 years old!😁
But what you say makes sense.

You make it sound very straightforward CY..
But I have standing orders, to find a pitch which gets the afternoon and evening sun, not under a tree so it doesn't drip after rain, and also, if TV signal is poor, we may need to bring out the satellite dish, and that requires a clear view of the southern sky, 142 degrees actually, not blocked by trees and all aided by a compass on the dash to accomplish these precise requirements. Just find an empty pitch ? I dread to think what the consequences of getting it wrong might be....

I initiated the original post in August 2017 and I said that from then on I would ignore the 12 arrival time if it suited me. Well, 2 years later & we still play by the rules and turn up at the correct time or later. 2 weeks ago we were at Lady Margarets Chirk & we arrived at 11:45am so I sat in our Van and went into reception at 11:55am and asked the Warden if she wanted us to wait until 12 she said no but thank you for asking. Next week we go to Broadway Club site for 10 nights and we will arrive at 12 & leave 10 days later at 11:55.
There is one way that the Club could reduce members turning up early at sites to get the pitch that they want in one fail swoop and that would be for the Club to allow you to reserve a pitch number when you book.

Struth....!
I'm glad to see a post I made nearly 18 months ago is still providing enjoyment.....

In off-peak season there is only the 1 couple at Chirk, and between 10.30 and 12 the toiletblock is being cleaned. The current wardens are the most accommodating people we've met in a long time, but even they can't be in 1 place at the same time, however hard they try!
We've been there fairly regularly off-peak and have seen people being checked in before 12, as soon as they were back in the office. Give them a chance!

...but even they can't be in 1 place at the same time, however hard they try!
Surely that’s quite easy isn’t it....😉

Oh dear where we are staying the office is not open from 1030 _1200 when there is one couple on duty, they clean the facilities ,just to see that what ever times the toilets are cleaned there were 5 motor caravans and 2 caravan outfits booked to arrive between 1200and1400 only one did so the rest trickled in up to 1800 so how would a pm clean work?
