I agree. His is a bit of a "Casablanca" location - of all the roads in all the world....

Its the OH who is the Soup Baron. Mum bought him a blender and a soup recipe book, plus gave him lots of her recipes, a few years ago. He is now God’s gift to soupmaking. It was finding the kitchen so tidy that was almost as impressive as the soup, (curried parsnip, my favourite, delicious)😂
We need two new tyres for MH. Will be reasonable compared with Wrangler
. We search online, get the cheapest version of what we want, get them delivered to local garage.

(NTH) All the best to your son for his new job, Helen. Is he working at Salford Quays?
Thanks Nellie, yes he will be working at Media City, Salford Quays, he is really looking forward to it. He has wanted to get a job with the Beeb since he moved to Manchester.

OH woke me at 3am when he got up for work to tell me it was snowing!
Still snowing when I took the dog for his walk, he loved it.
It's mostly all gone now though.
All the soups sound delicious, must make some soon.
We are also in need of 2 tyres for the car, just waiting to hear back from a friend who works at a local land rover garage to see if his boss can get them any cheaper than we found online.

Sorry you have had to cancel your break Brue, hope you can get away soon.
We have been wondering whether we can get a weekend away soon, we had to cancel one due to me being poorly.

Thanks Helen, we'll hopefully get away before too long. Our snow has dwindled away but still on the hills and fields.
I'm just watching the last Winter Watch programme, It's not far from where we used to live and I had an urge to rush up there but I know I'd be very very cold if I did!
We dug some curry out of the freezer tonight, OH likes making them so we always have some spare for days like this. Hope we can get out tomorrow. Enjoy your soups and warming food.

Snap Brue. Just watched the last episode of Winter watch too, excellent as always. Wonderful part of Scotland.

I have just watched Winter Watch too. I loved the shots of the Cairngorms in the winter weather at the beginning of the programme. Such a beautiful part of the country.
Brue and Helen I hope you can both get away soon.

Very cold overnight, blue skies and hard frost this morning, but no more snow.
Yesterday we went to Ikea as DD needed a few things, had lunch there too. Bought a new high chair to have at our house for Callum.
Several items ordered for "the house" have now arrived so I have been working out how to make internal drawers for 4 kitchen cupboards. I have made several for our kitchen, so just had to ascertain exact sizes. DD has purchased the drawer kits and we got free sheet materials from Ikea for the backs and bases.
DD had also asked me to make 6 other cupboards more accessible. They are cupboards on corners, rounded corners, so they have curved doors, which look nice but these particular examples are not so practical as the cupboards are very deep but access to items in the back of them is hindered by fixed panels on one side. Difficult to explain the problem!
So we have unscrewed the panels and put hinges on them, so now the 2 bits open as one bifold door. We then had to fit magnetic catches to keep them closed and keep Callum out of them, he has already managed to extract and smash 4 cereal bowls! All the cupboard doors now have baby proof catches fitted, even Dad is struggling to get into them!
Have also fitted a new front door lock as the previous owner had not handed over the code for any of the high security locks, so DD could not get any additional keys cut.
Tomorrow I have a "day off" so I can stay home and start making those internal drawers in the relative comfort of our garage.

Glad you are having a nice stress free retirement Kj.
A careful walk this morning avoiding most of the ice. Be glad when it's gone.
Being eaten out of seed and fat balls. Can't fill the feeders fast enough. Even the Jays are hanging off the fat ball feeders.
Booked a CL for 6 nights from next Tuesday, yahoo. Have to get out into the caravan tomorrow to start preparing it.

All the hills around us are still covered in snow, we went up to Shepton Mallet today in the Mendips where the snow fall had been a lot heavier than here and it was very icy underfoot. Was quite surprised to see so much snow so I hope those further east are coping ok.
Interesting to hear about the Jays WN as we had a rare visit from one today, I love seeing their bright colour. We had our lone Fieldfare too but the blackbirds always try to chase it away.
Hope you enjoy your CL stay.

Funny old day here again. Prepared a bag of clean clothes etc for OH, delivered by friends who returned with his dirty stuff, ready for his trip to cardiac centre Monday fingers crossed.
Can't say I felt better today, spoke to a pharmacist yesterday who didnt think my symptoms were flu 😤😤. Suggested I waited and call 111 today, which I did. Out of hours appointment made for 5pm at hospital where OH is in residence, but I couldn't see him 😢. Different friends collect, drop me and her off while he waits. So kind as doctors running an hour behind but very thorough when I do see one. I have a chest infection 😢😯. Prescription given, hospital pharmacy closed (don't start me ). Luckily a good choice on the way home, 1st antibiotic swallowed and hopefully working as I type. Got to keep my eye on dull ache around the kidney and see GP if not improving. I can't fit that in 😂😂. But water sample ok 😀.
Postman delivered several early birthday cards, mine on Tuesday. Think it will be muted and celebrations hopefully later.
Just heading to bed, can't do late nights at the mo!

How good that you got that appointment B2 and are getting some anti-biotics inside you, best thing is rest and keeping warm, hope you start to feel better soon. Maybe you'll be able to enjoy your birthday in a quieter way but I hope you and your OH will be back together soon.
Just watching Great British Car Journeys, Inverness to Skye, should be good. I fell asleep during the rugby earlier on!

Oh bakers2 you are having a bad time at the moment but I am so glad you have such good friends to support you. I do hope the antibiotics do the trick. Happy birthday for Tuesday. Hopefully you and your OH can have a proper celebration when he is home and recovered. It is my birthday tomorrow. I suspect I am a good few years ahead of you. 😅 Wishing both you and your OH well.

Same here, MillieH, Very Best wishes for tomorrow ( 23 again
) and for Bakers2 on Tuesday ( probably 18 or 19 now ) Hope your antibios work well & you get a few nights good sleep. Then you'll both be fit to celebrate when your OH is home & taking a lightly boiled egg.
Best Wishes to all our Ailing Friends

Best wishes to the birthday girls, hope you will soon be feeling better B2.
Sunny but cold here again, have made good use of my day off and cut most of the bits needed for those drawers. Fronts will have to be cut later once we seem how the drawers will sit in the units.
OH was busy with washing and drying, using free solar power, tidying the kitchen after a week of hardly being here, and sorting paperwork before we get in too much of a mess. She has a huge pile of shredding for me to do now!
This evening we made a huge pot of our favourite soup, so will take most of it down to DD tomorrow, for lunch and to stash in her freezer for later.

Happy birthday milliehull 🎂🍾🥂🎉🎊 Have a lovely day.
Thank you all for your advance birthday greetings.
Think I might feel slightly better but I'm saying nothing just coming to slowly before getting up! Sun seems to be out here 😀 that'll help.

Happy birthday Milliehull and Bakers2 🎂. Sending virtual birthday wishes to you both. Hope you both manage to celebrate when time allows and your circumstances change for the better.
Ive been sat watching the birds visiting the feeders in the garden. Why is, that my garden is mobbed by birds this morning but last week whilst completing the bird watch, I saw two? 😳🕊🤔😮

Very hard frost last night but bright and sunny this morning so just getting ready for a walk down the beach. Will take bird food with me to feed the Turnstones. These lovely little birds fly over 2000 miles to get here so the least I can do this weather is feed them.

We celebrated our birthdays yesterday too. We both have birthdays in December (OH is Christmas Eve 😳). All the restaurants tend to be full of "works Christmas parties" and only providing a Christmas set menu, so we wait until January when things have quietened down. We had a lovely meal with family and friends at The Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa. Such a lovely old hotel full of history and atmosphere. It's always nice to spread birthdays out by a few months! 😊

Wow sun is making my feel better 😀.
Thanks ADD46 I'm hoping there'll be nothing significant to mark my birthday 😉.
OH sounds better this morning, he has been told his flu has gone 😀. He'll be taken to Basildon at 10am Monday for angiogram, take all his stuff with him but he'll probably come back to Broomfield, not sure what to make of that! We understood any procedures will be undertaken there. But heyho have to believe they know what they're doing 😯. He continues to wear personal monitor and they pop in regularly to reattach detached leads 😂.
Just had a call from friend inviting us over for catch up this afternoon, shocked to hear news - I've not said much to folks but was awaiting test outcomes etc so 10 days later I'm none the wiser! Upshot dinner of homemade lasagne salad and slice of yogurt cake being delivered before dinnertime tonight 😀. Such kind friends, I'm so lucky. Offers to visit himself kindly declined I'm scared of anyone giving him more germs 😱😱, but friends FIL is currently in Basildon cardiac unit, she says the care fabulous. I've heard good reports too.
Oneputt how lovely, I love the shore birds don't see them often enough! What will you feed them?

I assume your local Hospital doesn't have a Cardiological Department? Margaret had an Angiogram at MK hospital as day surgery but when it came to her having her heart operation that was done at the John Radcliffe in Oxford. Even people having stents fitted have to go to the Radcliffe as well. I don't know how far you are from Basildon but for us it was an almost 40 miles journey to Oxford and very expensive parking. Hope everything goes well.

When OH had heart attack 23.5 years ago our local hospital was the cardiac place. Several years ago specialisms were centred differently the cardiac centre for Essex is Basildon. I hear high praise so am happy. It's the treatment and care that counts not how close to home 😉
At present, assuming I'm well 😉 I can catch very regular bus service to hospital door with a 10 minute walk so parking is no problem 😀. Mind you bus fare quite close to carpark minimum charge as I dont qualify - don't start me more £'s stolen from us WASPIES 😤😢. Or I can drive and trundle around the carpark looking menacing 😂. Depending in the time of day the trip across town driving could equate to the a good run to Basildon. Apart from my cataract being a nuisance I can drive and have a car, I'll probably get to see their parking in the near future. Although I believe there are no parking restrictions on local roads so that's a huge plus. Parking at hospital is so stress inducing!
We've, son OH & I, have rightly or wrongly decided maybe it's an out patient's appointment at this stage. Which we hope means no imminent danger. Tomorrow will tell.
Thanks again from both us for everyones good wishes.
Edit the care and treatment may be free but they have other ways of making us pay! I'm grateful that I can, and I hope it will continue so, but for the elderly, disabled or infirm or those on restricted budgets it must make things even more difficult!

I think hospitals are between a rock and a hard place with regard to charging for parking. Here in MK the hospital site is set away from other commercial enterprise so little risk of people using the car park for non hospital use. Having said that parking is always under strain. They have recently completed a second multi story car park which has to be paid for. Even the staff pay to park! Disabled parking is well catered for and free. When Margaret had her bypass at the John Radcliffe the parking was horrendous, and that was just finding a space. We were paying about £7 a day. Margaret was in for 6 days and about half way through her stay one of the nurses mentioned that we could have had a reduced cost pass!!! I think for people less able to travel there are schemes in place to help like the hospital car service and there seems to be quite a fleet of transport ambulances that ferry people around.

Our big hospital have tried for a multi storey a few times. Local residents consider it would “lower the tone of the neighbourhood” so it always meets with opposition. Pure snobbery. I think the screaming ambulances and long queues for traffic , with exhaust fumes, lower it more, but what do I know!😂
