Keilder became a seasonal pitch only site in 2018, and it's web site shows that's still the case with 38 H/S pitches, open from 1st Feb to 1st Nov.

It was still showing as a touring site when the 2017/2018 Site Directory was sent out, and I've added the note about changing to seasonal, but didn't enter the date.

Hadn't realised that the Kielder site was now seasonal only. Pity, 'cos it was a lovely location by the reservoir. The only other site that I am aware of for Kielder is the one near the castle, which was run by the Forestry Commission many moons ago, but is now run by the village. It is described as rustic. It was certainly that when we stayed there when it was a FC site. I hated having to share my shower with numerous creepy crawlies. Also we had the most dreadful weather. It was like living in a carwash, there was so much rain. We ended up with a swimming pool in the awning, lol. Last time we went to visit Kielder was about 10 years ago, but were staying in a luxury self catering cottage complete with indoor swimming pool a few miles away.

PATMAU, the C&CC's Bellingham site is not that far away, close enough to cycle to the anyway, and has had good reviews lately.

I think it's just down to demand, or rather lack of it. Clumber Park for instance, although well subscribed at weekends, when we have visited in the week during January / February, often we have been one of 8 / 10 vans. Running a site on takings of £167 a night must be a bit of a challenge, especially given increased electricity consumption in cold weather.

Sometimes it’s planning constraints and beyond the club's control.

I’m not party to the machinations of the club but I know the terms of the licences and planning permissions often restrict opening times.
The club are in the best position to know what is viable for their sites.
