Suitable site for new caravaners to practice!

Morning all. We are hoping to collect our new caravan from Chipping Sodbury sometime March/April. As we are new to this we think it best to spend a couple of days somewhere near to the pick up point so we can get used to the caravan and how everything works. Any suggestions as to a suitable site nearby? Thanks!

    Moreton in Marsh site is near and a very spacious site close to the town with lots of small shops, cafe s and eating establishments. Also weekly Market.

    If you're picking the van up towards the end of March, have a look at Plough Lane, Chippenham which is an easy half hour tow from Chipping Sodbury with very easy access off the A350. smile

    Cirencester club site nearer to Chipping Sodbury than Moreton and a lovely walk through the park to the town and the site has park like feel to it. we are staying there later in the year.

    Just an idea – ask the dealer you’re buying it from if they can recommend a nearby site.  It may help in ensuring they prep the van well before you collect it.  Also check if site will be open when you are collecting as some open later than others (some are open all year) You can read reviews of club sites on here & also many other sites on uk campsites.co.uk.  Hope your new van arrives on time and the handover goes well.  Enjoy.

    As this will be your first handover I suggest you make notes as the dealer goes through his Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). Ask questions and try to make sure he explains everything, twice if necessary. Then when on site and you've forgotten half of them don't be afraid to ask other members. Half of us are decent.smile

    Finally remember to take a corkscrew of bottle opener! Good luck.

    Ha!Ha! Corkscrew and bottle opener both already in the box! cool I'm at the age where if I don't write it down I'll forget it. Good job technology has advanced and I can record things on the phone. Good advice. Thanks.

    I concede that Morton site is big but it's anything but spacious. Many pitches require the towcar to be parked across the front of the pitch instead of alongside the caravan like most other sites. Moreton itself is very nice though.

    If I was you, I would be asking the dealer you are buying the van from to be including a couple of nights stopover at a nearby site so that you can test out everything. And when you do stop, check out absolutely everything, inside and out, door catch’s, the cooker, under the sink, inside lockers, absolutely everything. Better to check it out as you pick up, and fingers crossed nothing is wrong, but if it is, they can see it and get it sorted.  Hope you have a great first few nights away, and many more after!laughing

    Spot on tda, it's what everyone should do who's purchasing a new van. Hopefully they'll cough up for a couple of nights on a site close to their premises, as it's cheaper for them to do that than for them to send an engineer out some distance should something not be working properly.

    Given how much new vans cost nowadays, a couple of nights site fees, within reason is a drop in the ocean. Even better if said dealers try and set up an arrangement with both Clubs, it might encourage new tourers to join up to at least one. laughing

    Cirencester is more spacious than Moreton I think. Some areas on moreton are tight. Especially if no motormover

    As a warden when you get onto a camc site mention you are a newbie to the site staff when you check in and they will help you with any questions or issues arising when you get to your pitch, (^_^)
