Icons: 20th Century
Anyone else watching this short series of programmes, celebrating and remembering some of the greatest individuals that lived and worked in the last century? We only tuned in on catch up to while away on hour, but so far all the programmes have been very interesting. Very hard to choose who is most deserving of a vote, (we haven’t voted) but I think the overall icon status has to go to a scientist.
The term icon is a hard one, lends itself more to those with huge charisma, but often the quieter, more hidden individuals have had a more lasting impact on shaping the world we now live in.

Yes, I had no idea about Helen Keller other than I recall watching an old film many years ago, and learned a great deal more about Emmeline Pankhurst and Martin Luther King. I actually watched Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi film again a few months ago. But how could you say one did more than another, they were all truly great people. I think the next programme will be about artists, will be avid watching for me. No intention of voting though, I wouldn’t know where to start.
