Your thoughts on an incident

Not strictly correct, the OP is saying one of the reasons for staying wide is because there may have been a cyclist. with a mirror he would have a wider view to see any potential cyclist and not feel the need to leave a bigger space to the left. From the photos the bend is very gentle so a good degree of field of vision would be available over and above what the cars mirror provided IMO.

Yep, EasyT it was all about the fence, you never know in relation to how far away you are until you pretty parallel with your van.
Anyways here is a motorhome taking the same line as me

This thread is starting to acquire the proportions of "War & Peace". One speculates what would have happened had the OP been driving a very large RV. I suspect the barrier would have caught it and it would then be clearer that it was an unsatisfactory installation. I think this is probably the nub of the OP's argument.

Milothedog, I was aware that there could have been cyclists, that was not the reason why I pulled over, the moral of knowing there may be cyclists is that I didnt want to pull to the left for that reason. It didnt form the basis as to why I moved and the mirror again was irrelevant whether it is law or not. It would not make a difference in all honesty no matter how anyone looks at it. My reference was answered by my car mirrors.
Anyways I am off to do paperwork now. I would love to stay with you's and debate.
I will update you all tomorrow, either way you look at it keep your fingers crossed.

Blimey, you have to admire Goodchild for keep on going. Everyone else seems to be on the same wavelength, that it should not go any where near the court.
What would I have done? Probably owned up to being careless, looked at van and work out how to polish out the scratches, listen to my wife saying 'at last you've done it'. She would have said...'The white lines, did you not see them;!
I certainly would not take it to court...what if the other party is reading this conversation.
Hope you get the result you want.

See huskydog, people are to quick to be judgemental, I went back to the scene of crime haha, as you can see from the picture I set the phone up to record whilst if you look on the windscreen there is a mount.
All by the book as i have tried to do

Ian, don't take this the wrong way but the underlying message coming through is that your not happy passing anything too closely when towing. This is probably not the case but is how it comes across.

I am going to devise a remote controlled towcar, that way I can get out and judge the gap from another angle.
If you see me on dragons den please dont sue me for the idea that I was not spacially aware and you all put the thought in my head hahah

Milothedog, I would like to think that we are all like that at some point. Me, at the end of the day dont want any damage to be done to my van, we work/worked hard for it and they are like a tin of beans when pierced.
I was at my secure storage site a while back and an elderly fella was at his van. I was taking mine out at the time, but a few van's along. He said hello as we do. The parking area for us to take the van's out and in are on a somewhat small gradient - but enough to make the van roll backwards when the handbrake is off, very deceiving to the eye is the gradient.
You can imagine what comes next, I hear a bang! I go around and the old fella is standing there, he explained his few week old van rolled back after he took the handbrake off after trying to hitch it to his car. He went onto state, above all things, that his wife wont be happy. He was around 65-70 years old. His back end corner and lights were cracked and caved in after it hit a metal container. My heart went out to him at that moment.
So I know what damage can be caused by at the least a near roll back ding. If I can avoid ANY possibility of this i will, it is not worth taking a risk.
If I am unsure I will ask my partner to exit our vehicle, which she does and to check for me. I and we as drivers have an awareness but at times we may feel uneasy, that is not a reason to cast judgement.
Like the old fella, it was easy to say to him, why did you not ask for help. he thought he could manage and couldn't.
I thought it was safe to pull over slightly but it was not! however I have evidence and ways to fight my corner. Was it the old fella's fault? who can cast judgement. he was in control of the situation he was in, he thought he was doing right but little did he know of the gradient.

Huskydog, can I ask why you reply if all you do is try and put me down.?
I hope and wish you never go through such a horrific event in your van let alone the stress of even trying to get it into the court room even when the defendants solicitor is trying their best to get it thrown out for me not following directions that I am unaware of as I am litigant in person. To date I have spent £240 pound to get it eventually into the court room
I passed my B+E test within the past year, I have drove caravans for roughly 12 years from memory, I have driven through france (paris city centre!) germany, all over the Uk, holland belgium and wales without incident like I have mentioned. All without incident can I say, never had an accident even in the narrow streets of france out of city streets.
Why be so negative I ask. No one else is, they are all giving their input, I counter, someone counters and its constructive for me at the least. As this is my post I have been given valuable valuable information, not only for tomorrow but for future towing.
Please just stop Huskydog.
