Planning a trip To the Wharefdale site and maybe a trip over to the N.Yorkshire Moors. Can anyone tell me what its like to tow along the B6265 out of Grassington or can anyone suggest a route to the Whitby site. Many thanks in advance.

Frank, there is no problem towing along the B6265 to Wharfedale site although if it's wet there might be a fair bit of muck thrown up by the many tipper lorries that run to Swinden quarry a mile or two south of Grassington.

I would advise against going much further with a van in tow beyond Wharfedale site though as it gets very narrow and twisty.

Best bet for Whitby is to go back to the A59 and head east to Harrogate and Knaresborough and on to the A1237 ring road to the north of York then on to the A64 towards Scarborough taking the A169 after Malton towards Pickering and Whitby.

The A169 has one or two severe gradients between Pickering and Whitby but isn't narrow so shouldn't present any problems.

On no account go via Thirsk as caravans are prohibited on the A170 towards Scarborough at Sutton Bank due to severe gradients and bends.

Thanks BVM, that's what I thought after looking at google earth. Though never having been to the Dales we might just stay there and then work our way home to Devon.

But any advice on things to do and see thats not on the usual tourist lists would be gratefully received.

I regularly tow along that route to Wharfedale and haven't had any problems up to now.
