Future of Caravaning
Where do Members see the future of caravans and Motorhomes with the demise of Diesel cars. I tow an Elegance 580 with a Range rover. I would struggle with a smaller car. Is this to be the end of caravanning in the future and how is this impacting on caravan manufactures. My caravan is a 2015 model. I have previously changed the caravan about every 3 years. But now I am reluctant to change unless because what I buy in practice will have to be towed with an Electric car or Hybrid both have a very low towing limit comments would be. Would is the view of The Club

it very much depends on your age and beliefs....My wife and I are in our mid seventies,we changed our car and caravan last year and we are,at the moment, fairly sure that these will see us ok until we give up touring in our early 80,s.but who can tell!I do not see the development of electric/hybrid cars to enable life as we currently know it for at least another 10 years so it does not worry me!!!You may think that I do not care about global warming and you would be right!!!purely in my opinion......the planet has been there before cars were invented, the rebirth of petrol cars has seen global gasses increase and car makers are struggling due partly to the demonisation of diesel.I now await the fallout!!!

Life`s too short to keep on worrying about the what if`s. Who says you have to tow with a hybrid new diesel`s are supposed to produce less CO2 than a petrol and be reasonably clean. What happens if you spend a lot on a hybrid then word gets around about the loss of efficiency of the battery then resale values drop something else to worry about?

On every vanning forum going, I reckon, but I concentrated on this one seeing it's where we are and the OP is interested in the view of the club.

I really can't summon up any energy at all for wondering what will happen in twenty odd years time. I'm just happy that I can caravan at the moment and hopefully for the foreseeable future.

Hi Husky, if you let me in on the secret of eternal life I promise to keep it to myself-but then I may not be able to caravan so............!!

This may very well be an inappropriate place to post this response. However, the future is already partly with us in the increasing use of electric vehicles.
We are therefore interested to know how the members and the administrators will respond when it comes to the question of "charging" electric cars on site, as we have seen this being done on a few occasions. In one particular case, the car was plugged in and charged overnight, for the period it was on site. We assume that all the other members are paying for these cars to be charged and that no additional payment is being made to the club.

The charging of electric cars on Club sites has been discussed at Club Council. It is very much a 'developing situation'. While it is not a huge problem at the moment, I would imagine as use develops the Club will eventually need to levy a charge to make it fair for non-electric car users. Of course, this would also mean installing charging points so that use could be monitored and charged (money... 😆) as appropriate. The Club won't rush into things though - it requires investment, and I suspect the Club need to make sure they get it as right as possible. (This is my reading of the situation, and not a formal/ official response)

As a wise man once said, 'it's better to add life to your days, than days to your life.'
Forrget what others are doing or saying, and just enjoy yourself while you can, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow as my Granny used to say.

Not like this gentleman....
"Dyslexic man lives in Caergwrle and dies in Hope. A local man who lived most of his life in Caergwrle died in nearby Hope last week, it has been announced. It's thought that 75-year-old David Jones suffered from a mild form of dyslexia, causing his brain to mix up letters and words.28 Sep 2016"

Given his prodigious consumption of electricity, I wonder how Malcolm is coping with keeping his electric car charged.

My nephew who has a Tessla does say that it costs about £5 for the electricity to fully recharge the car. This does mean that if electric cars do become more common on site then to cover the costs the club will have to make a charge possibly using a metered system.
At the moment the cars on site will normally be small ones or hybrids with a far lower consumption but I suspect that even that will start to show soon.

The last part of your reply bought an old memory to mind when we went to the building society to extend our mortgage for a big building project. All went fine and it was approved but then the young women started on trying to sell us the extra insurance protection. we politely declined and she made one last attempt at getting a sale using the line " you never know, you could end up under a bus " to which I replied, yep in about half an hour from now. She gave me a very funny look until I pointed out that I worked for London Transport and repaired them for a living
Fully agree about not worrying about what will or may be.
