Personally David I think that the extension is an abomination producing a boring desolate area lacking in trees and shrubs associated with the section of older site.

Can't say that either of us notice excess road noise, I'm usually the first to moan about it. It's not anything like Strathclyde or Tredegar neither of those would I wish to stay on again.

I notice some traffic noise but not a problem. Also hear the dawn chorus, the owls, the crows roosting etc.

You just have to do a bit more research then, JVB, Google Earth is good for that. (as are OS maps if members were given the map reference that is!!)wink

I much prefer the open spaciousness of the new section. To me the old part of the site is claustrophobic. But we are all different and like different things. This doesn't mean what we don't like is bad or wrong it just means we don't like it!

Looks like most newly upgraded sites before they mature and planting is completed ,Black Knowl ,Bridlington and Tewksbury look very open, and last years long dry spell curtailed any tree and shrub planting

Have never been , is it on the coast?, as the picture looks like maran grass as found where there are dunes so other type of trees etc would be a waste

We stayed in the old part and the pitch wasn’t really long enough for our 8m van

We have  stayed briefly on both parts but prefer the new bit... We couldn't get our omni-directional aerial to work on the site at all, so opted for our portable satellite system instead. This, we found, will only work on the newer more open section, where there are no trees blocking the line of sight, roughly 140 degrees to the astra satellite...

Our omni directional aerial on a previous van worked fine until 2012 when we had a change of van with a directional aerial which was also OK.  We did get some short term interference to the signal when the flocks of birds crossed the signal as they swirled about before settling on their roost smile

We only used the TV on Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing days during our . The last time we used our TV anywhere in the van was Christmas 2017 on a couple of nights. We were on pitch 8 and could not understand why our directional aerial would not work ......... then I turned on the booster laughing

I can understand why you might want the open plains with a satellite receiver. Those using the area always seem to be able to watch TV though. We have used the site every Christmas since 2009

    Francis,

You wont have a problem with the access or a choice of pitch (new or old section)

It's very easy access into the town and you also have the option of walking past the Fisherman's Rest pub (north end of site) and walking into Birkdale village a 10-15 minute stroll where you can catch a train into Liverpool, take refeshments in one of the cafes or bars and for cheese lovers, there's a superb cheese shop. The bistro on the left after crossing the railway line is quite superb too.

We've been a couple of times. The only bit I'd avoid is the long straight bit which is nearer to the park.

I did find the hard standing on the new part wouldn't hold pegs very well and when the wind blew I had to double peg the awning.

I love this site!  The new part is excellent and very easy to move your van around, still leaving plenty of space if another van has to pass you while you position your van into place.  Left it to late to book for spring bank holiday but will visit site later in the summer.  The 'problem' with people passing through the pitches has been rectified by the fence being extended across the back.  If you pitch in the middle of the new bit you don't get as much traffic (vehicle or people) passing by, just my opinion wink.  Great easy access and very easy to find.

First visit for a while. How standards have slipped, especially on the new part, where we stayed. Kids hanging around the toilet block every day and night, running in and out as people open the door. Racing round the site on bikes with no regard of the one way system.  Cars, solo and towing and even the wardens, driving well in access of the 5 mph speed limit. I would definitely avoid that end of the site for a future visit.
