Towing with a VW Tiguan automatic

I tow a 1500kg MPTLM caravan with a 2005 4WD X-Trail which according to CC match has a kerbweight of 1515.00kg
To get down to that I would need to have no driver, take off towbar, drain fuel tank and take a couple of wheels off. No idea how they arrive at that weight

surely what's printed on the V5C is what VOSA will go on in the event of an accident if they investigate?. putting council flags or any other weight to increase this weight would not add to the kerb weight but would be part of the cars payload.

Thanks for that xtrailman. Really useful. I went to the local VW dealership today and whilst there are plenty of 150bhp SEL 4motion's around the 190bhp version seem to be thin on the ground. I might have to be patient!

It turns out I was wrong - or at least I was given incorrect information. I have just spoken to the insurance dept on another matter and asked for clarification on this issue since I had raised it on here. I was told that it was not part of their script to mention anything to do with weights.
So - I apologise if I have misled anyone but it was done in good faith since I am still convinced this was said to me, regardless of whether or not it should have been!

We tow our Swift Conqueror 580 with a Skoda Kodiaq Scout 190HP 2.0TDI DSG and have had no issues with stability even with two bikes on the rear of the van. Towing at 55-60mph gives over 30mpg and its possible to achieve over 50mpg solo
