Thanks. There's a pub within walking distance of Blackwell Hall, up on the main road, don't know it's name but appeared quite popular. Steep walk down to the Miller's Dale but good walking in all directions.

H&T I forgot to add that the Monsal Dale Trail runs from before the Miller's Dale Station to Bakewell, so a fine long walk there.

Just catching up on here now that we are home.  Congratulations Mr and Mrs Tammygirl.  Also Happy Birthday to Mrs WN. I am glad she had a nice birthday and found a few things to buy. I must now catch up on jobs at home and put a couple of loads of washing in.  Have a good day everyone.

Just booked Barleywood for our first trip of the year starting Friday.  Need to be a bit cautious as there has been a lot of flooding along the coast.  But sure we will have a great time and walk miles and see fantastic wildlife.

Walked into town, returned one of the 3 pairs of wedding shoes to Clark's they were online order. They suggested M&S for wide fitting so toddled in there to be surprised by new stock in! Tried on several pairs, sizes a bit bizarre, but have ordered in a red pair of court shoes, sadly they don't come in navy or I'd have ordered those too. Be in store after 12 noon tomorrow. Not a bad service but holding a decent stock of sizes would be so much better. Then we are told we are shopping more online!

Had decided on a nude colour so all were originally that and settled on a pair from remaining 2 pairs. Made the mistake of sending photo of my feet in shoes with the dress to son - his comments a little harsh re colour 😯. Checked out the Hotter web page to find the ones I've settled on do come in red and navy, just didn't have in Freeport's outlet store. Phoned to check a couple of points as not the same shoe name. Ordered red and navy in those - bonus in the sale but not as reduced as outlet ones, and qualify for free delivery to home. Estimated 3-5 days for home delivery 7 for in store, also no 20 minute drive to collect and then return at least 3 pairs, if not 4, in due course. I consider it a result OH rolling his eyes 😢😤.

We go to order his suit with son Saturday next together with shoes. Naturally once colour and size are sorted they will fit. Cos mens shoes are foot shape 😤😤. How sensible is that?

Enjoy your trip HelenandTrevor and Oneputt. I feel I could use one myself.

Went to optician for eye check, self referred as I feel my cataract getting worse. It most certainly is. She'll refer me again. Bless her she's as cross at consultants response in November as I am and will state its second request, she said in passing her next patient had similar to me in November when referred and they did hers and she was in for check up after! Since November its changed by 2 increments for distance. 7 in total since last April, luckily I wear lenses which are cheaper to change! I'm going to look at private costs, but I fear the shoes my have scuppered my chances 😂😂😂

Much easier to take shoes back B2, I ordered a chest of drawers from Marks and Spencer, we discovered it has a very visible manufacturing fault, what a palaver to sort out (and it's not sorted out yet!)

Hope you can get your eye appointments arranged properly this time round.

What do you mean, Bakers, that mens shoes always fit????? FAT CHANCE!

I have small feet but quite wide. It's a faff trying to get good ones to fit and I hate trying. I'll do anything to hang onto comfortable shoes. Mrs WN says it's a good job she doesn't mind being seen with a Hobo (whatever one of them is).

Anyway today was strange. First off the plumber agreed to call to fit the new shower. Amazing. Then I took MIL for an appointment with her doctor. Upshot is another "urgent" appointment at hospital for a different problem from the first "urgent" one. Plus blood tests and a revisit on Monday to said doctors. Her normal stable BP is through the roof so something is amiss. Glad we're at home and not away in the ''van.

Sorry I had no idea men could have shoe issues - apologises 😉. Please assure Mrs WN she is not the only one who doesn't mind being seen with a hobo 😂😂.

Gosh seems like good service from your GP, best wishes to your MIL. Sometimes it's less stressful not to be away at such times, no decisions to make about returning.

Actually poor service from GP, Bakers.

She went to them with a problem with her ear about 2 months ago. Nurse told her to get the syringed without checking. We took her about a month later. No need for syringing so she went to her hearing aid supplier. No problem there but he did send a letter to her GP to investigate urgently, hence today, where her GP an unhappy bunny. He apologised saying she should have been seen 2 months ago! That's the problem with having to go through nurses first these days.

We're just worried that there may be a serious underlying problem.

Sorry to hear about your MIL's problems WN. Very worrying for all of you.  There seems to be such a lot of 'red tape' before things get moving with the NHS these days. I hope it gets resolved soon.

Bakers2. I always wear Hotter shoes these days as I now have wide feet and also other foot problems. I am depressed to hear that they have changed the parameters for cataracts. I am still waiting to be referred and mine is getting worse. I find life very difficult in situations where I can't wear my glasses, like swimming. Also if I look at the clock in the middle of the night I cant see the time despite it being a large digital display 😡.

Enjoy Barleywood OP. I hope you also have  a good trip Helen.

Welcome back millie, glad that your trip went well.

Enjoy your stay at Barleywood, OP.

We had frost overnight but fortunately the water didn't freeze. We moved on to Goatfell Fm CL today, and ran into a very unexpected snow flurry!! Thankfully it only lasted a few minutes, and the sun came out, but it was still rather chilly, about 2C. We did have a red sky tonight so perhaps we'll have a fine day tomorrow.

Milliehull they have changed the parameters for cataracts in October 2017, not just vision now. Check out NICE guidelines. When I went last November, 13 months after the change, the consultant I saw reckoned they hadn't- "otherwise had have known". Sadly I went unprepared, but then I wouldn't want him doing it anyway! Sounds like you may qualify. I e just checked the private cost locally not too bad, I'll bide my time 😂😂

Hotter seem to be making nicer looking shoes. I like Vionic shoes as they have lots of support but despite being designed by a podiatrist they cut into bunions 😱. I also like Romika and Josef Siebel. I actually bought Padders last Saturday - bliss.

WN, just a thought. Is your MIL using any prescribed eye drops? My Mum was, and it turned out to be root cause of some of her BP and heartbeat issues. She is now fine after stopping the drops. I mention it because GPs hadn’t picked up on this at first.

For those with foot issues, I have plantar fasciitis, very painful at times. Can recommend Sketchers shoes for comfort and relief, although not for special occasions! I can fit my prescription insoles into them and they work fine.

I too suffer at times from this, the exercises have helped greatly to the extent that I can now wear ordinary shoes at times but the Sketchers are the best thing when its playing up.

Cold day here today frost for most of the day.

Went to see the new Mary Poppins film this afternoon, can't say I was impressed, much prefer the original with Julie Andrews.

We were at Paddy Ashdown's funeral yesterday, it was sad but he had a good send off. Then the other extreme a garden club social in the evening followed by me watching Fiona Bruce doing QT when we got back, I think she had a calming effect on the set up. OH went to bed, he's been busy with DIY, too many things going on at once this week.

I bet that was well attended brue. Sad, but he was a good leader of LibDems, amongst other things he did.

I had Mum and her SIL yesterday for day. Took them to a nice Fish and Chip restaurant for lunch (“oo I’ll never eat all that” duet, ......they did!😂😂), then retail therapy for them at our local Boundary Mills outlet. They were in fits of giggles at some of the clothes, not sure why, but it was a mixed bag of purchases, two pairs of trousers, one pair shoes and a frying pan. Mum has reached the stage where she won’t buy anything new for herself, just in case she doesn’t get the wear out of it, so I sneakily bought her the trousers. Getting her into them will be this week’s challenge.🤔 The frying pan was to replace one belonging to my cousin, who is a brilliant cook, proud of his cooking utensils, but my Aunt had decided to use his old one and it had ended badly, sort of burnt black. So she needed to make amends. They are a grand pair, great fun to be with, and we spend most of the day laughing.

Second mild day 10c so spent a few hours each day in the garden, can't remember the last time I did that in mid January, hope we will not be paying for it later on.

Spent a few hours this morning doing Admin jobs (yawn) but it has to be done every so often.

OH washed his car and hoovered the inside, he says he is going to do mine tomorrow (bet it rains)

JV, good to hear you are still ticking laughinglaughing

After a horrible cold, damp and foggy day yesterday when all we did was a bit of shopping and a couple of short walks today was quite a lot better. Parked at Grindon and walked down to the Manifold Valley, onto Wetton Bridge and walked along the trail to Weag's Bridge and back up to the village, out for nearly 3 hrs. Booked our last two nights of this trip so will be home by the middle of next week.

Back at the van now. Had a fab day,  walked down the Monsal trail and along to Litton Mill,  crossed the river and walked back via the lane. Met up with son and his girlfriend while enjoying  a welcome hot drink from the van parked at the old station.

Then walked along the trail in the opposite direction,   watched the children absailing off the bridge rather them than me 😉

Late lunch at the Anglers Rest. Now resting my weary legs. 😂
