I didn't think WTG's post was anything particular to do with touring here or there, more with CS posts that appeared to be taking issue with ET's perfectly clear (and beneficial) posting that, by purchasing an ACSI card, it's possible to make large savings on some UK sites for much of the year.....
while the card is widely used by those who tour abroad, it is a European wide discount scheme and there are a number of uk sites which participate.
i didn't see anyone ridiculing anyone else, unless you're referring to 'bee in bonnet' which were exactly the words aimed at me by Moulesy yesterday.....but I didn't become 'defensive', nor felt insulted or saw it as downright rude.
perhaps you get 'hurt' far more easily than some others.
the original post was raise awareness of uk savings with the ACSI card, if you're interested, great, if not, don't bother.
ill be using mine in a day or two, had one for many years.
im sure that many who tour exclusively at home won't be aware of the ACSI scheme, I only found out from someone when on my first trip 'away', so ETs post was a helpful piece of info.
why knock a thread like this?

Have to say, the difference between website charges and ACSI charges at the same period are in some instances huge. Worth having if you use somewhere like Woodovis on a regular basis, late Spring. Some of the others don’t offer the same value, so it is worth checking.
I was reading an interesting article around Centre Parc venues the other day. Most indicated that it was hugely cheaper for a family to opt for a venue overseas, rather than in UK. The difference, even after flights, ferries etc..... often amounted to saving well over £1000 in a single trip. Just part and parcel of UK economy overall, squeezing maximum revenue out of every aspect of life, and in some instances, death. It’s not an attractive basis for life really..............

Indeed always read the small print.
We are just looking at our summer holiday over there and we just checked last year's hotel (for the same time as this year ie super peak)to see that it is actually cheaper this year than last year and by about £150 per person. But many hotel similar to it are also the same price. I remember people on here saying two years ago that with Brexit prices for over there would go up but it appears not.

I doubt Brexit will affect what happens to overseas prices. The underlying issue of extracting as much cash as possible from as many aspects of life seems to be a very British one. Sadly.

stayed for 2 weeks at this park last June/July, very good site quite small for tourers and some of the pitches are not great. used a serviced pitch in the main field HS which was great, some of these can be very shaded. A few pitches are just as you enter main gate which have very little privacy and looked a bit on the small size. It is about 15 mins in the car from Tavistock and i did not see any evidence of a bus service. Site shop was quite limited, but on a couple of nights per week they did have a take-away van set up shop for a couple of hours, but very early, 5ish.Indoor pool was very good with sauna etc, but closed quite early again 5ish, site very quiet when we were there so no problems using pool etc. Bathroom facilities were adequate but i think only 4 showers which could be a problem if site was full. I think the key to this site is to go when kids are in school. There are quite a few static vans on site. Site very close to Tamar Trails, cycle ride, if outdoor pursuits floats your boat. we would go again, as very dog friendly with excellent dog walk, with some very lovely views. No i do not have shares in this park
caution, if you are in the main field but at the bottom end it is a bit of a trek to the bathroom, I cycle & OH quite fit but could be a problem if you are not good on your feet.

Term time, mid week, looks very good to us. Does the pitch price include access to the pool and spa for €20?

yes it does, and if quiet you could stay in all did if you so wished, i think they run some sort of arm band scheme when busy, did not use ASCI card as we had a discount voucher from somewhere, forgot to say that on the main field there is a tardis like bathroom , seem to remember only toilet and sink but very modern and new, no on site bar or club and we were advised not to use local pub which was in walking distance, but some good facilities in Tavistock . Lots of good walking including dog in the local area.

Ttda, just to confirm your view, we stayed at a site on the coast near the ferry in the Netherlands a few years ago in June. Nkrmal price would have been over 50 euros per night for 2 adults. We paid 17 euros per night. 3 nights saving nigh on 100 euros. Anyone venturing abroad would take it as insurance for the small cost.
It's good to see it expanding here but like yourself we would be judicious in choosing where and when we would use it in the UK.

Thanks Rufs. We know Tavistock very well, just not come across a site we liked towards the South of Dartmoor. We’ve used a few on the Northern edge, and have stayed in cottages on the Moor, so it might be a future option for us.
Out of the 40 UK sites, not many we would choose for a long stay, but another interesting option maybe for the odd night or two.
