ACSI Camping Card in the UK

This off peak discount card is well known to those who go overseas but less so to those who stay here in the UK - but this year there are 40 UK sites which are members of the scheme - well equipped sites of four and five star standard with full facilities, and some with indoor swimming pools. They offer an off peak package price around the £17 or £18 mark for two people plus Caravan or Motorhome, electricity and one dog.

If you do an internet search using the title of this thread you will get the list of the 40 UK sites involved and the dates when they offer these discounted prices - each site varies. Club HQ will sell you the ACSI site guide which contains the necessary discount card - for £11.49 plus postage, The website and the guide book give prices in euros but sites make the conversion for payment in sterling.

These are not sites which will appeal to those who are wedded to CLs or to those who only go to the main Club sites, but are worth consideration for those looking more widely than that - even here in the UK.

I have used ACSI sites for many years when abroad to good advantage but have only used them once in the Uk. The sites in the Uk are also priced in Euros. So not sure how the sites work out the price. The one I used did a straight forward conversion of the rate on the day I paid which was simple.

Looking at Uk rates and the present day Euro conversion you may be better off just paying the site price.

I have just checked a site in Llandovery. The ACSI price is €20 and the site price £16 Also have checked another site near Swansea and their website prices do not include EHU. You buy a pre paid smart card to pay for electric so quite how that system works out with the ACSI price remains to be seen. So I would advise you check your chosen site carefully

I started this thread after looking at the prices for June at Woodovis Park near Tavistock - a five star site with indoor swimming pool and spa. Adding up their pitch price, plus awning,  plus electricity,  plus dog it came to £32 , and so it struck me that the ACSI rate which includes all those things for €20, which converts to £18, was something of a bargain.

JVB,  Yes. The Woodovis  price of £32 was for was people over 50 and even  higher than that for youngsters. You have to do addition to get a total on their website , but the ACSI price is all inclusive.

To make your point first you post the price as £32 then then questioned that is it the rate for the over 50? you're doing the same sin as the club with it's new pricing. Why didn't you mention that was a discounted rate straight away rather than trying to mislead us?undecided

either way it is certainly as expensive as a club site with similar facilities

But not if you use ACSI, which was the whole point of ET’s post.

I agree but it is still misleading and really not needed as you say so why do it in the first place?undecided

anyway isn't the card to to paid for as well? and from what I can see it can only be used in the low season? From what I can see June is mid to peak so is this card available then?

And is ET sums include a super pitch/16A or the standard 10A?

I am struggling to follow what your “complaint” is here Corners!

ET stated the usual price  for this site, which happened to be for over 50s.  JVB queried if the over 50s discount had been factored in.    Not sure  why he asked that.

Either way, the regular prices are much higher than the ACSI price.  ET was not comparing the normal price of this site with the prices of Club sites, but showing how one could get a very good deal using ACSI should one wish to visit this area, and suggesting we could consider the ACSI offering, possibly even as an alternative to a Club site IMO.

Yes, the card has to be paid for, but after a few nights use you would have saved that cost.  Yes, only outside of peak season, which suits many of us fine.....far too crowded in peak season.

Not complaining just pointing out that the card  may not be used in mid season but only off peak, so the sums are incorrect.

In Off peak the price with discount is £21 almost as the same using the card and more expensive when considering you have to buy the card.

Now mid season may qualify but I think it is worth pointing that out before people buy the car and then do not get the 'deal' as told by ET, surely that is important? IHMO it is.

If the card can be used in mid then yes it is a good deal. but worth checking I would think? Caveat emptor

The card can be used "mid" season. Almost all the sites include June as low season. There is one near Inverness that starts high season on the 14th.June, presumably as schools close earlier there. A couple start from 23rd.June but a few even allow the discount from opening in March until mid July! There really are only 2 seasons with ACSI. Low and High.

High tends to be Easter, B/Hs and School Hols.

then that is a good deal, but the site quoted by ET though has mid season from 2nd June.

Ps the site looks no more '5 star' then a similar club site though, IMHO of coursesmile

The site may describe the season from 2nd.June for non ACSI card holders as mid term but the whole point of this thread is that if you use the ACSI card then for the periods 15/3-15/7 and 8/9-1/11 you will pay 20euros. So even at Easter you will only pay that amount and May B/H.

I am sure there will be members who hadn't realised the savings that can be made in the UK using this card, so the thread was a worthwhile one.

you call it nit picking negativity, I call it being careful and advising/checking before parting with money based on a possible assumption. One's choice of course to take which path one likes.smile

no need to be so negative/angry is there in making your point? Or are you saying only ET and the over there tourers can advise?smile

We have considered the acsi card a few times, primarily to use Woodovis Park. We certainly wouldn’t go there without, far too expensive for us, but with the card it might be worth it.........except we have two dogs. I know they will take two dogs, but will this be outside the remit of ACsi, or could we just pay the acsi fee plus another £1.25 for dog number two? Just wondering if anyone knows.........

"You do have a bee in your bonnet about this matter don't you????"

Is it any wonder some of us become defensive when others continually ridicule those of us who prefer not to tour overseas? At times the comments have been downright rude and insulting. I'm not pointing the finger at you, WTG.

Could be worth trying then. We know some of the parks mentioned, particularly the Cornish ones, but they are a bit too “ holiday camp” for us during the Summer months. But might be worth trying out of school holidays. It’s not our thing, staying on site, but Tavistock and Dartmoor are very close. Heck of a saving over website prices. Doesn’t open while March though.......

well I really hope the card will prove useful with the proper careful inspection of course. Enjoysmile

Yes I did consider the bl**dy obvious, but it’s 9.45pm on a cold January evening, and the site is closed at the moment, so I went for the second most obvious way of getting an answer. It worked!laughing
