Maybe I should have clarified my response WTG by saying that many articles contained in the magazine do not stand up to close scrutiny and that critical consideration of the article construction in much reportage does remind me that one should often believe half of what one reads, or at least not take as being fully accurate from a literal stance

Book in advance whilst you can, I have about sixty nights booked at the mo and will cut that down to about twelve nearer the time at various sites,if I had to put a deposit then I would not book so many, but hey make hay while the sun shines, unless you really think this is a club, rolling booking, no deposits stupid idea.

If you mean 'do I think that speculative booking never happen' the my answer would be that 'I do think there is some speculative booking but I do not necessarily consider it to be a major problem'. The only people able to know the extent and to be able to determine if it is a problem is the club management.
Do you have reason to know that there is a problem?
As far as I can recall I have made one speculative booking during the year before the CC lost Braithwaite Fold. That was in February when I noticed a vacancy last day or so of August into September. We had used the site 4 or 5 years earlier and as we had not toured the lakes for some time and not planned our September break I booked it. In late March we discussed the booking and decided to keep our book 5 nights and make it a part of a September tour which we planned and booked

Along with your thinking that it is not a major problem I do agree, but in my opinion I do believe it is a tool to be used for lessening ones chance of losing out by counterbalancing with other bookings, and the present system supports that thinking.

While reading all the 105 previous post I had two thoughts. Firstly, it is threads like this that keep the Internet warm.
Secondly, on deposits one has paid being forfeit, I can think of it as an additional charge for being a caravanner. If I were to loose a couple of deposits in a year because life got in the way, then averaging the loss across all nights actually used would produce a very small amount per night. Perhaps less than the difference between the booking price and listing price refered to about 80 posts ago.

The problem with the club holding card details is that they may well be in breach of the latest regulations regarding personnel data protection. I appreciate that large companies like Amazon do hold such data but am not sure how they stand with regards to PDP.

But those details would be alongside names and addresses of those that have booked. I was talking to a CL/B&B owner today who has concerns over the matter, as he has at present to destroy those linked details once payment has been made. Otherwise it would only take a breach of his IT security system for any hacker to have the personnel details of all his clients, and he would liable should the breach take place.

My suggestion of the Club holding card details was to avoid the requirement for deposits which seem to be anathema to some.

With regards to the OP we would like to advise that in addition to enabling members to book more easily all year round, the Club is also making further improvements during 2019, taking into account member feedback we have received about increasing availability for members, making the online booking process simpler and faster, and offering members more deals and discounts. We will give you the details as and when they are available and I will be posting here on Club Together.
I will now close this discussion as it's got heated at times and I hope we have addressed your concerns.
