I have watched the first two episodes, a bit on the slow side I feel. Personally glad there is no singing!!! Should we consider Victor Hugo the French Charles Dickens? The latter certainly doesn't have so many roads named after him in his own country.

I'm really into this adaptation, it is something I have never taken an interest in with a musical attachment. Gritty story, emotional also to see Fantine getting dragged deeper and deeper into the mire. Then we have  that nasty piece of work 'Javert' the police Inspector who doggedly pursues 'Valjean'.

Can't wait for the next episode.

But you could go to Guernsey where he lived for many years at Hauteville House, I think it re-opens this year, in all it's splendour! I think, like Dickens he certainly did well from his writing.

Agree with you Another David, really enjoying the production but felt absolutely drained after last night's episode.

Tried to read the book many years ago, but gave up. Might have another go now I'm retired and have more time!

Olivia Colman & Derek Jacobi in bit parts, that’s a big production right there👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊. Very atmospheric.
