The supply of serviced pitches

My preference would be for a site with all serviced pitches and no other facilities such as a toilet/shower block etc. I'm sure this would be a lot cheaper to build and run than the normal sites. So perhaps the fees would be less than for serviced pitches on normal sites.

is that over there Davie If so how is that helpful to those who are talking about (club) sites over here?

Many continental sites have a halfway solution where one or two taps and drain are located between two or four pitches. Usually I find that my flat hose will reach my motorhome fill point when I get low and the bucket can be emptied in the drain. For caravans it would be feasible to leave an aquaroll in place and use a hose to top up. Perhaps that is a cheaper solution for the Club and no need to charge extra?

and you did - thanks

Surely the answer to all this is to make all pitches on all CMC sites fully serviced. This way would bring them into the new world, solve all the problems of pitch choice and price variances and keep up with the evolvement of the modern day caravan/motorhome. In my opinion it should also include a sewer connection on each pitch. Now our lovely modern caravans/motorhomes can really be used to the full.
We always use fully serviced pitches when they are available but I don't think there is enough of them on CMC sites. I presume CMC want to keep in 'the old days' but they should be 'revolutionary' and lead the way in all aspects.
I go back to the days when our tourer had no EHU (gas lights), no water hook up, no toilet or shower and today we enjoy a lovely new caravan with all the luxuries but still have to 'bucket and chuck it' on many sites.
Now , if those who want to still caravan in the old way, they can get the pitch cheaper if they do not use any facilities. Also with no showers or toilets on site, CMC would save a lot of money and manpower so there should be no increase on pitch price!!

It just goes to show that one size doesn't fit all as some want facility blocks, some don't, some want no EHU and some want all pitches to be fully serviced.
Maybe the club has got it somewhere near right by offering a mixture of sites/pitches.

And that would be fine for those with a whacking huge unit and, presumably a whacking large towcar to suit (or read motorhome for that), but for those of us on a more modest scale the facilities are gratefully accepted and used.
I'm quite happy for the club to invest in some serviced pitches, particularly since many new commercials seem to make a big play of having them, but please don't marginalise those of us who choose to forego the pleasures of a mobile palace!

It is still "bucket and chuk it" for the toilet waste, even if the sewer connection is on the pitch.
The revolutionary step forward is for someone to co-ordinate the location on pitch and on caravan of the water, waste and sewer connections. At present there is nothing to conform to, so every pitch is different, even on same sites.
Trailer caravan assemblers will say it would restrict their freedom to alter the internal layout, yet many caravans already suffer from extended lengths of piping below the floor to get the waste outlet close to the axle, while many motor caravans have the dribble outlet from their waste tank stuck in some awkward spot.
Both types of caravan, and other vehicles whatever they may be called now or in the future, could easily have a large diameter dump valve/outlet for grey waste, and plug-in connection for water in a standard position that would align with the connections on site.
Toilet waste would be more difficult to design to make it proof against 98% of idiots, but not impossible. No more need for chemicals and the "walk of shame" as water flush bowls could be used for the toilets. And probably no need for pegs either as caravans would all be sited to lign up the waste connections.
I will not accept a pitch as being fully serviced until it includes my own private hot tub!

I suspect everyone would like a service pitch but what they don't want is to pay extra for it?

Nope, just a decent MHSP.
To my mind there’s no point in having a serviced pitch - paid for or not - when we have tanks and the van moves every day.

We have sometimes used serviced pitches, on CLs and private sites where all pitches have a tap and a drain. For us, with very limited storage, whilst the filler hose is on-board anyway, carrying the waste drain can be a pain, especially if you are visiting several sites and only one of those sites has serviced pitches. On the whole, especially if we are going out some days, it is just more hassle to disconnect than its worth, and it is never ever, in my opinion, worth paying an extra fee for.

With the ever-increasing ratio of MH to caravans, I would imagine that the requirement for service pitches would, over time, decline. BICBW.

You might have thought so CY but it ' ain't necessarily so'. We stayed at Southport CC for 15 nights over Christmas. We normally pitch on the older part of the site. A few times, being nosey, we drove through a section of the new part of the site where most Serviced pitches are. The serviced pitches, whilst not apparently in great demand, seemed to have about as many motorhomes as caravans. I suppose that this could be due to being next to town with a 1 mile walk to center or 2 miles to railway station and it seems that most motorhomes don't move off site.

The club could certainly sell more service pitches. They are always unavailable well before the standard ones. Last year we had to cancel some sites for medical reasons, two were service pitches. When we were able to get away again we had to content ourselves with the standard variety.
However, I think it would be wrong to force service pitches and the associated price hike, onto those who don't want them. Whilst we like them and can afford to pay, an around £55 price hike to a fortnights holiday (at any time of the year) could force others to rethink.
Yes availability on all sites and a slightly higher percentage at some others would be nice. As an example, currently Cirencester has 12% of hardstanding service, 7.5% of all pitches, whilst Chatsworth has 22%. Personally I think around a quarter should be service but certainly not all.
