Couldn't agree more, it is ok to request assistance if you are having problems pitching but I can't think of anything worse than someone interfering when I am setting up.

Not every time, but I can remember a number of times, some last year, that the wardens said something to the effect of if you need help pitching come and ask. Also at Troutbeck head they often said if you wanted they would help you push and pitch nose in to get the views.

The incident I cited on a C&CC site was in poor weather and the wardens working in pairs were whipping vans off the back of cars before drivers had chance to engage reverse gear. They were taking no chances with the grass in those conditions. Normally they only help if requested.

I couldn't " fine " people for churning up the grass around hard standing pitches but I could offer them the tools to at least put it right. Only recently seen one tower pull across grass opposite to his proposed pitch before failing twice to reverse on and causing deep ruts in the grass then deciding to drive round the site to another pitch ( doubt he contacted the wardens to advise of his wrongs ) and another motor homer taking the corner off each time he drove on and off his pitch ( Stevie Wonder could have done better ).

When staying at Moreton in Marsh last year some clown with a 4X4 towing a twin axle caravan turned off the site road and drove across the grass between my pitch and the caravan beside me on to the hard standing pitch behind us both.

Perhaps it’s pertinent to point out that the Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen base vehicles used for most MHs are FWD and have the most appalling turning circles. Whilst this doesn't excuse bad driving, it could explain why some motorhomes may appear to struggle.

As an example, our 6.4m RWD Merc Sprinter based MH would turn out of our drive easily. With the 6m Peugeot MH we have now, it's touch and go whether it will turn out of the drive in one go. In fact a lot of HGVs have a tighter turning circle than our MH!

What I don't understand is that some caravanners fitted with motor movers, DO NOT use them. They then "shunt" around, encroaching on grass, other pitches before finally getting onto their chosen pitch.

I too don't understand that at all, it's their choice (and their clutch if they have one) of course, but I unhitch on the site road and let the mover do all the work.

As I put above, I also find it difficult to understand, particularly when they have just chewed up the grass and then engage it for final positioning and to locate the wheel lock.

However, if there is room, or the grass OK to drive on, I do like to have a practice from time to time. Although if the site is busy, particularly if children are about, I prefer to use the mover.

You don't have to understand it, as long as I do that is all that matters. Whether I use my MM is dependant upon conditions, space, people in close proximity and whether I'm up for it on the day.

I'm pretty good at reversing and pretty good at using a MM, I look at the situation and decide there and then.

Same here, I only use the mover if space is a bit tight. Invariably by the time I have got out the car and engaged the movers on each wheel, unhitched, switched the mover on and paired the remote, I can have the van on the peg using the car.

Not hearsay tosh at all.  Happened to me on arrival at the site on 13 December and then to one of my Twitter followers just before New Year.

Just take a moment to think about this. How is a warden going to fine you and what can he do if you don’t pay - take you to court? 😂😂😂😂😂

Also, where would that payment of fine go, how would it be accounted for? We have to be careful here in answering this as I'm afraid the very suggestion this could happen is possibly rather a scurrilous accusation. Nah, can't believe it at all.

You've no idea if the mover works. 🙄

The remote might have set off on the A frame & now be in a million pieces

The leisure battery might be flat/goosed/missing

The jockey wheel might be goosed (as once happened to me)

I was believing till the mention of ‘Twitter follower’ then noticed the Lone Ranger reference so now can’t decide which is fiction!

As already said how on earth would any such fine be levied or collected???

Not really  ..... my jockey wheel fell apart as I was hitching up due to the roll/celloc pin at the top failing .... all fair wear & tear. And I had a Chunnel to catch so wasn't about to maul with it.

Oh well! Each to their own then. I can reverse, pretty well actually, but still like to use my motor mover. Best to keep opinions / observations to myself from now on.sealed
