Of course Club sites are dear - there is a big superstructure of Head Office staff and Regional managers included in the costs. Family owned sites here in the UK don't carry those costs.

    Oh, good! I agree. 👍🏻

Err, doesn’t that mean paying the going rate for site fees?😄😉

    Thanks David, totally agree.

The point I was making was that folk in the UK just seem to accept high prices for a bit of gravel on a site to park their van. Facilities are no better than over there, in some cases they are much worse. There is nothing on the sites like swimming pools, restaurants, etc so why do they charge so much.

The club is getting greedy not only with the prices but with the price bands as well. Public and Bank holidays are only for the best a Friday and Monday so why does 'this' club put the prices up for a couple of weeks. If you take a look at some of the price bands its a joke.

The salient point Tammy is that CC sites can only be realistically be compared against nearby sites within the UK.

TG & AD - I didn't mention France, tend to avoid that country - too many revolting French folk around! (Strange dress code too - yellow definitely doesn't suit them! )wink

All I can say about Croatia and particularly Italy when we were there in September is that we found bread, fruit and vegetables and cheese in the markets much cheaper and eating in restaurants also.

It would if we ever stayed on them laughinglaughing

It's getting to the stage now that we only use CL's especially since going back to a caravan.

Don't get me wrong we can comfortably afford it, but I have an idea of how much I'm prepared to pay for something and if its more than that then I rarely do.

I wonder what Business Rates, utility charges and income tax/National Insurance, or their equivalents, cost in Europe. Anyone have an idea?

Unlike me. If I can comfortably afford it, I’ll pay it if the product is what I want. We can’t take it with us. 🙂

I choose to caravan in the UK. The simple point for me is that of the types of site that I want I find that, overall CC sites better provide for my wants than the majority of similar commercial sites or C&CC sites. For the majority of the times that I tour I find little price difference between CC and commercial for my chosen sites. C&CC sites are cheaper due to age discount but for me are very much second best for several reasons.

Oh I do that to Alan, on the very rare occasions that we stay on them wink so far this year we have been away in the van for 126 nights, 8 of them on C&MC sites. Mostly before or after a ferry crossing.

But you can have lots of fun spending it other than on a C&MC pitch laughing I have no intention of taking it with me or of leaving it for the others to get their hands on hence the up coming cruise.smile

See, we each spend it in ways that suit us. The thought of a cruise fills me with dread and, presumably, that’s the way you feel about the club. It’s good to be able to choose. 😋

We have told our sprogs that our money is for us to do what we we enjoy (no cruiseswink) and the house is for them to fight over when we have both goneinnocent and the 160 nights (so far) on club sites next year is where a bit of it is goingcool

OHs son and co has been visiting today and one thing that we all have agreed on is that wages, since we retired are, in most areas , far higher and cost have also increased,so we have come to the conclusion that although some think site prices are to high ,the club are doing the right thing to attract  a younger membership as they expect to pay those sort of fees and above for their leisure timesurprised

We intend to blow the lot, JV, as there is no one else to consider. Therefore, we have lots of fun doing exactly what we want. 😁

I wouldn't say 'dread' more like 'ripped off'

Some of the sites are nice but its not the sites I go away to visit, its the countries. Maybe one day when I'm old and set in my ways  laughing I will be singing the club's praises but I wouldn't hold my breath.laughing

But it’s not 'ripped off' if it’s what you want and you can afford it. See, it all depends on your preferences.

However, I don’t think I’ll be singing the praises of cruising even when I'm old and set in my ways.😃

I'm not too bothered about price alone. What counts for us is what we get for our money.

We don't go for big commercial sites with multiple water slides and late night discos, but over the last few years we have found sites with a mixture of facilities - indoor and outdoor pools, bike hire, canoe hire, a fishing lake, cafe/ bar, shop, trampoline and bouncy castle for kids, even space for football, eat in or takeaway meals, free wi-fI, guided local walks, better bathrooms than we have at home, and one with a free drinks party for everyone hosted by the owners.

I would happily pay the going rate for Club sites if only they had something on offer.

That’s a huge assumption and I find it rather rude, PD.

I have my reasons but they are personal and not for discussion here. End of!
