Paint Seal on new vans

I wonder if anyone has had their new van treated with a paint seal, or similar, to keep their new van clean and prevent pitted dirt accumulating. This morning I have just washed the roof of my motorhome and it really needs to have the finish restored as I can't clean it as well as it should be. Would be interested in your comments, pros and cons.

    Is "paint seal" required on grp bodies (bailey)we have not had either of ours done and they have come up well with just a water wash/rinse,not like a painted tin body  LV

    David.

    Maybe a good cleaner like Autoglym to remove the grime,   then Autoglym super resin polish  will bring the shine back,   and much cheaper than paint seal.   We had a new car treated once and I thought it was a waist of money.   Never use the resin polish on a dimple finish as I had a night mare of a job to clean it off.

    I had our present tow car paint sealed (FOC) from new and was very pleased. For the next 8 or 9 years, at least, when it was washed off with plain water it looked polished.

    We have a Bailey with GRP roof and sides. Perhaps "paint seal" was the wrong term but some sort of seal to keep the muck out. Without getting physically on the roof, not probably a sensible option for me, it is difficult to get the roof really clean. Autoglym is very good but again that is an on the roof job!!!  There is a company called Tourershine and I wonder if any one has used them?

    Have you considered getting someone else to clean it David? It might work out much cheaper than paying for "Paint Seal"

    We had our Bailey paint sealed from new and it was certainly benificial. Very easy to clean, no need to polish and the roof certainly didn't get as dirty. Cleaning up much better than our previous van in heavy rain storms. We only clean the sides throughout the year. The roof is done annually ( for a fee) when it is serviced. The van is now 5 years old and the coating is now becoming less effective. Not bad value in my opinion.

    Did "Paintseal" clone once on a previous car but for the outrageous price, it appeared to make little difference, certainly not enough to justify.

    Tourershine  (has always had good reviews) or local valeting company would probably give your vehicle a new(ish)  look as far as is possible. Then a polish and/or Fenwicks overwintering wax on the roof (who looks at the roof and the wax can be left on) would be my choice every few years?

    I have used Tourshine and found it very good, I had it done on a new van and apart from a rinse down from time to time the van now 3 years old looks new.

    On a previous caravan we had Paint Seal and it was good, most marks just washed off and with the supplied cleaner and cloth black marks mostly just rubbed off.

    We treat the MH with a good quality wax once a year and that really makes it just as easy to clean as the Paint Seal.  Polish will not seal the paint all it does is clean the surface of dirt and remove a minute quantity of the paint layer, only by sealing it afterwards with a good wax will you seal the paint and make it easier for cleaning.  On the advice of another site we use Colinite 476, as it is heavy duty it lasts a long while so no need to continually recoat. 

    Obviously you need to be able to get on the roof so in DK's position where he is not longer able or wants to go on the roof himself maybe get a proper valeter round or wait till bob a job week and get a couple of boy scouts/girl guides up therelaughing

    No matter what you do with GRP if its out in the weather, after five years it will start to look tired.

    Wash, rinse and leather then Greased Lightning Showroom Shine. Adds a coating that helps to keep the muck at bay and easier to clean next time.

    Paintseal was used on our 2010 Swift and the bodywork still looks good!

    I use Greased Lightening, too....I find it a great product...

    last did the roof a couple of months back and still looks like you could eat your dinner off it...wink

    Had Diamond Brite put on my car when purchased two years ago, no need yet to apply polish. My new RV on the other hand has had no treatment so I spend my mornings getting a sore finger with some meguiars finest. Spanish sun eats up untreated paintwork. Should have it all done by April!!, manana and all that!wink

    I had our new 'van done (at the dealers) with Paintseal 2 years ago.  For the (high) price I was quite disappointed. 

     

    Part of the bodywork quickly attracted dirt as though it hadn't been done.  I complained and, to be fair, they sent someone out to re-do bits without any arguments.  However, 2 years downstream it hasn't performed nearly as well as I had been expecting overall.

    We had our van 'paint sealed' in 2014. Last year we had a crack and Coachman replaced the back end completely. It was not re covered with 'paint seal'. It is now a lot more difficult to keep clean.

    We had our new caravan done with Paintseal last October and have not washed it yet however it looks as if it has been has been washed every day as still nice and shiny.

    If you contact them they will come and seal it for you.

    I have used Tourershine twice now (on separate vans) and can certainly recommend Paul Asserati who did a really good job. Just use PH neutral shampoo (autoglym) and it certainly makes it easier to clean.
