American RV,s
hi there just a question to the club in general which is being asked by many RV owners. Is the club anti RV,s.because of the length restrictions on many sites now we cannot use them, but before the restrictions i have used some of those sites with an RV,which
would suggest it is the clubs way of saying that they are not RV freindly.thanks and regards brian

Hello. Looking at the date of this post would seem to confirm your fears. We have struggled with our 35 footer to find sites where they could accommodate us. I tell them we have a 12 foot overhang and can fit almost any of their pitches if the access is right and there is room behind, but reminiscent of doctor receptionists many are not even polite enough to try and accommodate us.
Blackpool, Edinburgh and Warwick are the only ones we found. I am wondering if the membership fees are worth it.

One wonders about the viability of such behemoths in this Lilliputlian country of ours anyway.

Personally, with an overall length of 11.5m plus, I am not surprised that finding a CC site is a challenge. Probably the same with many commercial sites.
Hopefully you realised this when you bought the RV

What has doctors receptionist got to do with a discussion on rv’s....it’s sweeping comments like that that upsets very efficient, accommodating, caring receptionists, and without understanding the way surgery’s and doctors instructions are run to fulfill the guidelines and targets set by the government it might be best to stick to discussing rvs....though rudeness is never acceptable at all some people mistake a refusal for whatever reason as rudeness.

I think Brian and Jo now have a N+B MH....clue in the avatar....round about 8.5m from memory....so much more accommodating at sites.
re: genuine RVs, a few weeks back we were at Henley (Swiss Farm site) and there were many RVs on site....some long(ish) termers, for sure.
on other commercials we've been on, we often see some RVs...so they are still welcomed at many sites.

Mazley, you have managed somehow to resurrect a very old thread of which only the opening post remains. The poster is still using club sites and is, I think, on his second RV so things cannot be too difficult for him.
I believe that if you choose to use a ‘non-standard’ outfit you surely do so in the full knowledge that using such an outfit is not going to be straightforward. Perhaps you don’t appreciate the your 12ft overhang will in many cases place you too close to any unit to your rear. Wardens know their sites and will immediately know if your unit can be accommodated - they don’t need to investigate. To dismiss their responses in such a way as you have is not going to help your case.
Good luck with your future pitch searches.

"about me: my name is Brian and am married to Jo.we started 22yrs ago with trailer tents then had 2 caravans,3 european motorhomes.after 8yrs with an RV we are now have a Niesmann Bishchoff Arto 88EK"
from the OPs info page...it's an 8.8m tag axle MH.

I am sure I have seen published somewhere that the Club is making an effort to accommodate longer units but that can only be done as and when any refurbishment is happening. Probably the best course of action is to ring individual sites as they may have to odd pitch which could be used by a longer unit. I have certainly seen a large pitch at Chester Fairoaks which could be used and also at Moreton in Marsh but as it only amounts to the odd pitch here and there its probably not possible to change the general length taken by the site for maybe one pitch. So ringing the site is the best option regardless of what the site webpage says.

Every time we have used Exeter Racecourse we have noticed at least three or four big RVs, often more. And I mean big, one was length of a big coach with three slide outs. Lovely site, lots of space, great if you have a car to get out and about. Not open all year though, but used by a lot of full timers with seasonal pitches. Thought we had found Triky as a lovely Concord parked up last time we were there!

I’ve seen 5th Wheelers and large American RV’s at Rookesbury Park, Morvich and a Thetford Forrest, obviously no good if you don’t want to be in those locations
Dont know how long Trikeys RV is but he doesn’t indicate he has many problems finding sites

I don’t think RVs make the roads unsafe! However, there could well be cases where the roads aren’t wide enough to allow for the large turning circle of RVs getting on and off pitch.

I can recall the day we saw our very first American RV, size of a big coach, with slide outs. Early 90’s on a little family run campsite at Bodinnick. How they got it in and out was a mystery, but they had come back to see friends who they had worked for a decade ago. Whole site had a good look around, it was so unusual. It was their full time accommodation, they travelled up and down UK wherever they fancied. Had a car as well of course.

Hi All
As some of you may be aware, and by my avatar, I have an American fifth wheel trailer. This lives on a site where I over winter south of Alicante in Spain. This year I've had a new one delivered, and that's where I think the relevance to the OP is. Ok, it's slightly different as mine's not a touring pitch but a full seasonal one but, at the time of delivery, with the help from reception, several of my neighbours and plenty of other folk willing to help it took 50 minutes to manoeuvre, sometimes inches at a time to get the new 40 foot trailer finally in place.
As a club warden I'll do my best to accommodate a rv or any outfit that may seem "oversize" but you must appreciate that although the pitching of my outfit above is a bit extreme it could be conceived that "I've got an rv" could make any site staff inexperienced in such things very wary, especially at times like a full weekend?

We were staying at Clumber Park when there were two big RVs near us and were deciding which route they were going to take to the next site it was quite am "interesting" on the ear how they were trying to find a way that did not involve B roads to Park Coppice site

Have travelled into PC on a number of occasions following large coaches and huge quarry trucks negotiating the road in and past the very entrance. If they can do it on a regular basis so can that RV. It's just a couple of pinch points on route you need to be aware of!

We have been to PC several times, once when it was closed, great time in the snow and watching the red squirrels out of accomodation window,, our c/van was plugged into boiler room electrics on hardstand and very cost effective stay it was
The road is not for the "faint hearted" RVers

We have travelled to PC several times and do know that the route could be a challenge for some RVers, the best visit we had was one winter in the snow watching the Red squirrels playing outside the site accomodation ,our caravan was plugged into the the boiler room electrics ,it was one of the most "cost effective" stays we had

Hi there ABM
You're quite correct in what you say. The lady warden on the site you visited has indeed bought our American rv. We now have a new one on the same site in Spain. Never sharing me Autocruise though, that's our touring van and cosy enough for two (only!!!)
