There’s so much to tell about the Outer Hebrides, Micky. I’ve touched on some of it in my earlier posts. What sort of thing are you looking for?

    Fine weather - I wish!

A lot of beaches are shallow shelving but maybe OK for bass fishing or possibly spinning for surface feeders like mackerel. I think a lot of the coastline would likely be unsuirable for any type of shore fishing and I don’t recall much opportunity for freshwater fishing.

Lots of sites and wild camping spots are adjacent to beaches and there are opportunities for swimming (brrr!) and walking both on the shore and on moorland and hills.

Other than that, it’s a great place to simply sit and stare or to visit attractions such as the Gearrsnnan Blackhouses of Calannish Stones.

    Hi All

We're planning to visit the Outer Hebrides and Skye in May 2019. Any recommendations for campsites please. We will be towing a caravan.

Check out my earlier posts in this thread, MS, and see the links. Talla Na Mara was the only site not suitable for caravans.

Access to the site at Borve on Barra could be tricky for a caravan, depending on length, so you need to approach from the south due to a sharp, steep hairpin bend at the entrance.

We were on the Outer Hebrides May/June 2018. We stayed at Croft No 2 on Barra, CS site with great views. It was a bit crowded over the bank holiday but otherwise good. Moorcroft Holidays on South Uist again has good views and great facilities. we really liked Eilean Fraoich campsite on Lewis, not the best for views but very good facilities and the owners are lovely. Glen Hinnisdal CL on Skye, is basic no EHU but great views and lots of golden eagles! Make sure you give yourselves plenty of time, we took two weeks and it wasn’t nearly enough!
