    We have one in each vehicle and use them all the time. Wouldn’t be without them now.

    I was puzzled why mine wasn't working on the last trip out only to discover I'd forgotten to plug in the power lead. embarassed

    Since so many people have bought dash cams, but their reasoning isn’t obvious to you, perhaps I can help with an example.

    Several years ago, we were towing in the middle lane of a motorway. There was slower moving traffic on our left and cars overtaking on our right. We were spaced sensibly far behind the lorry that we were following at 60mph.

    A Ford Escort overtook us and pulled in close to us, then slammed on his brakes for no apparent reason. My husband braked very hard, the car ABS cut in, the caravan wheels locked and we managed to avoid a collision. Then the Escort pulled back into the outside lane and drove off.

    His actions were clearly deliberate, goodness knows how the car behind us coped, and after stopping, we found the interior of our van to be awash with the contents of drawers and cupboards flung open be the violence of the braking.

    So we bought a dash cam, had it wired into the car, so that it’s running on every trip, without any intervention from the driver, just in case we ever need to supply a recording as evidence to the police. It’s total cost, including installation was £130, which seems reasonable in view of the £thousands that damage caused by someone else might cost. There’s no shortage of examples of where other people have caused a collision but blamed it on someone else. The police, nowadays, will use dash cam footage as evidence. So what’s not to like?
