I'm not in the least defensive, Rufs, as I have nothing to defend. I’m very happy to pay for the good life and have never freeloaded in my life. I can see both sides of this argument but, if you read it all again, I think you’ll find I’ve been pretty neutral.
I think you're getting mixed up again and misconstruing a bit of light hearted banter aimed at those who take themselves sooo seriously.

Rufs, you don't try very hard to hide your (not) love of MHs...
leaving aside all the caravan/MH baggage, the prime reason that most folk choose a MH ais that it is a vehicle in its own right, perfectly entitled to drive and park wherever restrictions allow.
just because it's a MH there's no need to be so anti....
i realise that caravans don't have the same impromptu ability to 'get up and go', nor to 'pull in and stop' and this is why MH owners don't need a site to overnight...
if we just stopped over for (say) one night, we wouldn't use any of the facilities at a campsite so why would I want to pay £15-£35 for that (not required) privelige?
ok, if staying for a longer period, we might make use of what a site has to offer but unless it's something tangible like a pool or bar/restaurant as we find on most of our continental stops, i don't need a site.
our water and grey waste lasts many days, toilet the main issue but three days is fine...
so the exmouth timings of 2/3 days is usually plenty for most who are touring..and if there wasa similar facility in more towns, MHs wouldn't linger as they could soonbe off exploring the next town.

clearly BB/DD think that you are the good guys within the Mh owners fraternity, but clearly BB you have not grasped the principal of "why should local tax payers fund your life style even if for only 1 day", you bought your castle on wheels, and you expect to live your life of dreams, pay for it.

Ruffs, I really can't keep up with this thread, so explain to me what you are accusing BB and DD of? They pay their tax on their MH (just like my car) so providing they park it legally what are they doing wrong?

I'm a local council tax payer. I don't have the least problem with MH's having a "freebie night or two". As for charging for the privilege, again I have no objection to a nominal fee for a night's stay provided it is commensurate with the facilities provided. FBC don't provide the tarmac, HCC do. The rough ground is provided by mother nature.

Rufs, perhaps you haven't grasped it.....in fact it's my darling OH and me who have funded our lifestyle....from our hard earned.
we bought the vehicle, taxed it and use it in accordance with any restrictions.
i don't park on uk streets very often, nor uk car parks...our uk touring tends to be sites, CL, THS....whereas when abroad we make far more use of stopping places...
however, if a uk car park has a few MH spaces, to 'welcome visitors' I'd be happy to use one, and pay for it..
ive already said it would bother me if cars (locals) were free and I was paying...
i don't see how this can be freeloading, sponging or other descriptions.

Thank you to ALL who have contributed to this post, it has been an enlightening experience to have been able to participate. For those of you who require a catch up, I think the below demonstrate how a few unsociable and sometimes unlawful people spoil it for the many. Yes this is Cornwall some 8 years ago and i believe the problem has been resolved by the intrduction if some new bye laws. I am glad to say that in my local area such bye laws were introduced before we had the problem, and it would not surprise me if additional bye laws were introduced to prohibit habitation on the public highway which is allowed today, which i would support, so come on down folks use it before you loose it

That’s 8 year old news Rufs. It solved the problem, which was a true problem, immediately. MHs can still park up in daytime at either Marazion or Longrock, but they no longer overnight there. It was a true case of visitors taking advantage of something for nothing, to the detriment of not only local inhabitants, but also other visitors to area. Families with small children unable to access some of routes onto beach, dog walkers having to walk dogs out into road into oncoming traffic, you couldnt get between some of the vans they were so close. A bit more than a single camper van copping a late night stopover in a none residential area. Ironically, the area has dozens of lovely campsites as well, from very cheap, to all mod cons, so no excuse really.

I doubt it. ---- In some cases, Caravanners and Motorhomers still seem to be two separate opposing entities on this forum..------- A situation I've never found on any other caravanning/Motorhome forum, there nobody cares about what accommodation other people choose--- they just get along fine. That's the way it should be.

Surely banning 'habitation' ie overnight sleeping in a vehicle on the public highway, will hit HGV Truckers who are taking their enforced breaktimes ? As well as Caravaners/motorhomers taking a sleep break on a long journey, after all we are encouraged to 'take a break' and not drive whilst tired. That is what laybys are for after all.
An overnight ban at known problem areas will stop most.....except travellers...who are apparantly a 'Race apart' and must be treated with kid gloves ?
Think this is mainly a storm in a 'Conservative News' teacup. IMHO.

Rufs, try and stop using my posts to illustrate your point. Your one camper van is nothing like the situation at Marazion that had been growing probably for decades before it became an issue.
Cornwall is still a very very welcoming place for caravans and MHs, big car parks taking all kinds of vehicles.
To be honest, all you have done for this potential visitor to your area is put me off, with or without our MH.
