Overnight campers' action

quite the opposite TW, after having a very public facing role for many years, and having to contend with them for many hours per day, whilst driving a 56+ seater vehicle, i consider myself to be a very placid type of guy who gets along with most people, providing they are respectful and considerate, most MH's fit this bill

The street is a dead end, not a thoroughfare. The only people who use it are residents and their occasional visitors. Most of whom respect the fact that it is easily blocked by thoughtless individuals, and park either on their own drives or in such a manner that others who live here are not inconvenienced. My personal “inconvenience” was a dislocated shoulder that had me walking an extra 50 metres to reach an ambulance that couldn’t get through. Anyone who has ever experienced a total dislocation will understand perfectly just how desperately I needed that ambulance full of Entonox. All because some selfish illegitimate wanted to save a couple of pounds in car park fees.
Parking by residents, who respect one another, is possible for a time. You just don’t block access for others, or go out leaving vehicle for a long time. Yellow lines wouldn’t help, it would require someone to police it, which won’t happen.

This is a copied photo of some of the problems in the city where my previously mentioned relative lives. The nearby cemetery toilet facilities are used by the van dwellers. The reason for the increased use of vans for habitation is quoted as the local cost of housing. Caravans can be moved on apparently but not motorhomes. One area of the city has had parking restrictions added due to this type of parking, the residents now have to hunt around each day for parking places, often several streets away.
Difficult times for all concerned. The issue of long stay parking in "nice" places by the coast etc could be seasonal or it could become more fixed as with these inner city problems. Residential costs rise and people find their own solutions.
This is being replicated in many places, the rest of us, who have a choice need to behave responsibly regarding when and where we park our motorhomes.

Thanks for explaining that the impression you were creating isn’t the reality. 👍🏻

CY agreed a couple should not be a big deal, but unfortunately this escalates, and from the now two you get 6, you get 1 bad egg, who pee's in the hedge, leaves his rubbish in the hedge, or worse throws it into the nature reserve, leaves his burnt out BBQ on the beach and then everybody is tarred with the same brush, dont get me wrong it is not just MH owners who do this, and in some cases they get the blame just because they have been there a couple of days, and dare i say it, we do seem to attract some of the less attractive MH's whose occupants could be the most charming of people but their mode of transport does not look that great, so people do sometimes form the wrong opinion. I do cycle this area a lot and we have a family Beach House at Tichfield so i see what i see. You should have seen how many MH's we had the night of the Cowes firework display to mark the end of Cowes week, but in all fairness i walked the area the day after and in the main it was left very clean, but the numbers did upset a few people, primarily because they had camped there for a couple of days and bagged all the best spots

I was a little too distracted at the time to call a policeman. Which you’ll forgive me is laughable in today’s austerity cuts. They can’t come out to murders let alone an inconvenient car parker, there are so few of them.
I am talking about respect and responsibility towards other folks and locations, not arguing the toss about what is correct or isn’t. Something totally different. Some folks will just park up without thinking of others, take advantage of whatever they can get to save a few pounds. Others will respect a location, it’s residents, it’s beauty.

well done bru for highlighting this, dont want to say too much on a public forum, but we have what could be the start of a similar problem. Just one MH on the seafront been there for months in the FOC parking area, obviously somebody living in their permanatly, not been moved on by the police, possibly because the MH is taxed/mot'd/has insurance.

and for a slightly different slant on Brue's post, not having a dig at MH owners honest TW, how many of us know of older people who have raided their pension pot, sold their house bought a very expensive MH and are now having to be very very careful where they park up as they are finding it very expensive to live on official sites, i met just 2 down in Spain, what were they doing, wild camping of course, but also where possible using, unofficially, camp facilities, come on TW, you know this happens.

Until the selfish few (as with all scenarios) start to "clean up their actions", it will not need anybody with experience to take notice of what seems a growing problem, and the increasing complaints from local residents which would "trigger" the actions now being taken by LAs to restrict the use of Motor Caravans being used away from registered local LV sites for "cheap accomodation"

If they’re parked there in the dark then they could get a penalty for no lights. If that happened a few times a week they might get the message.
Of course the local Police may be too busy, but a tame Special might be up for it!
Over the weight and parked the wrong way....I take it there are no marked bays by the size of them.

no DD I havent checked as i dont believe the LC would grant such permission, because there would no "imagine" about it, it would become a problem, and further more i dont suppose for one miniute this person is paying any form of council tax, but you can bet your bottom dollar that he is using as a minimum the public toilets, that are provided from my council tax
1 -
yes, particularly when they had parked side ways on taking up what is effectively 2 spaces, granted in some areas it is rough ground which runs parallel to the beach and does not have bays marked out as such, but that is what i call inconsiderate and gets all MH's a bad name

The vehicles are over the minimum weight used to be 30cwt what ever the new equivalent is, I think it was changed to 2500kg for parking without lights. But it’s an offence to park facing traffic without lights anyway. I suppose what I really mean is that there’s more than one way to skin a cat, if they’re causing a nuisance.

Rufs, I know it happens and I don’t know why you feel you need to convince me as, if you check my posts, you’ll not find that I have denied the fact. My comments have been on the situation in Exmouth and you seeming to have a down on MH-ers which we've already discussed.
Incidentally, I can honestly say I know of not one single person who has raided their pension pot or sold their house to buy an expensive MH. I think the scenario you describe of such people then finding they cannot finance the lifestyle is largely speculative. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen but none of us are in a position to know to what extent it exists or whether it does at all.

It’s not coming over that way, Rufs.
