Bilking
Apparently this practise could change the way we buy fuel for our vehicles. I've never heard of it until today. Any thoughts?

Some Asda stations are unmanned and use this system,as does our local 24 hour petrol station. It is much easier than some continental stations that require pre payment where I use cash and sometimes have to go back to the till for a refund!!It stops the crooks who drive off without paying and does make sense.

Costco use this system

Yes. First you need to scan your membership card, then your debit card for pre authorisation.
I have only used two petrol stations at Costco stores and both were unmanned, i presume the rest will be the same.

Looks like there are those who think it should be a universal practise, may be even contributing to lower prices at the pumps! Well that's the suggestion!

We hardly ever go through the lane that you have to pay the cashier, why would we, its slower. Much prefer to drive up, pop in card and fill up.
We do this abroad and at home, only time we don't is if the access to the 24/7 lane is not suitable for the caravan to get through.

Can't remember the last time I paid a cashier for fuel! No I am not guilty of bilking, I just prefer to use Pay at Pump. With the motorhome the easiest access pumps are usually the ones where you Pay at Pump.
Two arguments seem to have been put forward for not converting all pumps to pre-pay, one is that it would cost a lot of money to install them and secondly there would be no reason to visit the shop so sales would go down.

I had to look it up. Appears to be an historic word rather than some new fad. At first I thought this was a thread about cycling with a typo in the heading.
