People's general complaints

Sorry you have decided to determine the post as snobbish BB. I just had no idea that Bingo, Balloon artistry and the winner of "Torbay's Got Talent" are so popular. Came as a bit of a shock to find the Club actually provided such an entertainment programme. At least I now know why the fees are high at times, all those entertainers to pay. What can I say? The Club are providing more for their customers.

Dear Ro ,if people on site these days are not so keen to put their head above the parapet and then moan what "upset " them on social media,or in site reviews instead of speaking to the site staff, then the replies they will receive from those who will "talk about any "problems" then it will tend to be those who will, and those who always think "it not my place to mention it"
It is down every one to be more proactive

The entertainment programme provided at Hillhead is family orientated, not excessive and as far as I have seen in the past enjoyed by some, but not all, who visit the site. However not everyone goes to the site for the entertainment, the social complex provides a restaurant/take away, a couple of nice small swimming pools, a shop and a games room. The fees reflect what is provided. The site does get very busy in the school holidays and there is a big mix of people so you can't expect things to be as they would be on a small quiet site elsewhere. Looking at the reviews there are as usual a few complaints but the majority are about enjoying the site and the surrounding area. Therefore why start a thread saying everything is awful, that people are obnoxious and somehow East Enders and Jeremy Kyle are to blame, this smacks of armchair criticism without any foundation or experience of the majority of site users and the actual sites in question.
And as said before, if you find something is going so wrong that it is spoiling your holiday contact the site office or the club.

I would imagine that if a customer had a bad experience on a particular site, they would let other customers know the details, so others are in a position to either avoid that site or put up with it ----. Using a forum is an excellent way to highlight any deficiencies customers come across. That is being proactive and also helpful.

And if they had a "bad incident?" I would think the first port of call would be to the site staff, rather than seems to be the norm these days complain after the "perceived problem"usually long past , ,on a public forum when maybe only their idea of a problem could possibly have been rectified at source by on site staff

If the bad experience is because of the way the site is being run or controlled, speaking to the site staff will solve nothing. A complaint to the Head Office is the way to address the issue, combined with making fellow customers aware via the forum.

I think that to a very large extent it's down to the nature of the complaints. If it's something factual - showers not working, pitch flooded, interference from outside (as in the recent comments about Cherry Hinton) then the forum is certainly a good way of drawing that to folk's attention. But if it's more a matter of perception ("rude" warden, noisy children, speeding, dog fouling) then complaining on here is pretty pointless other than just letting off steam. And, as we've seen often enough in the past, it's 100% predictable where such threads end up.

hillhead certainly isn't everyone's cuppa.....we've been twice, enjoyed it both times.
once well out of season with no pool, entertainment etc...
the second time happened to coincide with the World Cup....the clubhouse atmosphere was great, as you'd expect...
at that time, though, there were still no volume of kids on site, so still quite quiet, but the pool was open and the weather good.
I know this will come as a shock, but I applaud the club for having a site like this (and a couple of others I believe, but we've not been...) and providing a different level of facilities to the club norm...in fact, far closer to the sites we use and the facilities we expect when 'away'...
i can see the potential issues in true peak, but away from this, I'm sure we'll try it again....
blooming expensive though

This is the site where I nearly ran over a dog which ran out (off lead) from behind a hedge across the downhill roadway...
Also did a review regarding various aspects of the site....and copied into customer services. Received a telephone call next day from the Regional manager who discussed the proposed changes/improvements the club has scheduled over the coming year..That was a couple of years ago.....Have the hedges been trimmed ? ...

Taking a sentence from the OP "I done expect adults/children to walk across my pitch"..how about this to beat. Recently observed from my pitch at a very well known and refurbished site, on the fully serviced area.......a member left his caravan with kettle, walked across the roadway to the pitch opposite which had a large motorhome but not hooked up to water etc....and proceed to fill the kettle from the non utilised tap.
The motorhome owner, who was sat reading his book...'suggested' to the member that he could use his own water tap. The reply that came could not be made up !!!
"i can't, mine is hooked up to the caravan"..
After the member with the kettle had repeated this a few times over the next day...the MH owner pulled out a hose and connected up....unfortunately this diverted the persistent kettle filler to my water tap which had the hozelock twin outlet which i carry for use when on SP's.
I 'suggested' to the persistent kettle filer that he may wish to purchase a twin outlet from a local shop...again the reply that came could not be made up...
'Don't the club provide these'...

Regarding complaints.. How often have we seen complaints about the workings of this forum software?. I've lost count --- Has anything been done to correct those faults. --- NO.--- Which really proves that nobody at Grimstead Towers takes any notice of what is written by Forum members on this forum.

We're all human, we all do things that wind up others. And living in close proximity causes that to happen more. So, a campsite is obviously an ideal breeding ground for resentments... I'd quite like my own island. Or failing that a castle with a drawbridge and moat.

Booking Procedure.
Does anybody like the new booking procedure ?
I don't, because I don't know what I want to be doing on a 12 month rolling cycle and the popular sites are now taken 12 months in advance.
I personally think it should go back to the old way and you can do your years booking on one day rather than wait and hope that the site is available and you've remembered monthly to book a pitch 12 months in advance.
To date I've booked 1 site in April where I would of have booked at least 10. I think this method will come back to bite you CMC with lost revenue.
Totally rubbish.

After all those posts clamouring for change it just goes to show that any system will not please all.

You assume "wrongly" that I may want to book a campsite in September, October, November or December on "frenzy day". Probably why you didn't understand the post? I will probably know in December "frenzy day" what I want to do from March to August like I'd guess most people do.
Not all sites are booked but the popular ones are.

I'm not quite sure what you're driving at there. As someone who hasn't booked on frenzy day for several years now I think the new system is an improvement and certainly makes it easier for more folk to book with more convenience.
Why is it any more probable that you'll know on December 6th what you want to do next year more than any other date? And what if you don't know and don't decide until January - would you want the club to delay frenzy day until then?
It all seems a bit self centred to me, to be honest unless I'very completely misunderstood what you're asking for.

I’m very confused by Clincton.
Is it not a case of booking early if something is very important to you, or being prepared to compromise if you leave it later?

well personally I think this 'new' system is great for me. I've managed to get on sites that I never would have and fill up my calendar with bookings to look forward to.
Now before anyone accuses me of anything, I actually opposed the new system and said so, but the 'other sites do it this way and the club should follow' posters wanted change (actually the ones who were most vocal were the ones that used club the least) so here we are. The club responded to what members wanted. Democracy in action!

Clincton, you know you can book and change your mind don't you? There are no deposits or stuff like that?

Nothing wrong with new booking system IMHO. If you want something, you get organised, get to work and sort it out. It’s a rather good recipe for life as well, incidently.

if it's a place you want to go, book it (for a few different dates if you like) then as the time gets nearer, dump the ones you don't want....all of them if circumstances have changed.
the booking system is one of the more flexible aspects of the club, as others have said, no deposits, nor (really) any actual commitment.
....so, fill yer boots and use the system as it and the rules allow.

It works ok. Busy sites, any cancellations get snapped up. None busy site, there will be pitches free anyway, so why worry. The percentage of people who can’t get exactly the dates they need, at a specific site, one year in advance will be negligible. Anyone trying to book a busy site, close to the dates they need should do what we do, book as much as you can, put some effort in to get the other days, or have a fall back.
We are currently hovering over a cottage booking. In 5 days time, all of the three we fancy will be reduced substantially. The saving will pay for our food for the week, so why panic?

Seeing how most (if not all?) large commercial sites I’ve looked at have non-refundable deposits and/or full payment within a few weeks of your arrival we should realise how good the club’s systems are.
I do think though that the vast majority of bookings and done with commitment, I think members should be given the credit they deserve in this respect and do value our current system.
