Bolton Abbey site wardens retiring!
just to say a public thanks to the wardens on this site who are retiring this week. We discovered this gem of a site last year and have now visited 4 times. We have always found the wardens delivering the highest standards of service and wish them well in their retirement. It is just a great shame the club no longer keep this site open through the winter, especially given the many local events in December and what a wonderful place to spend Christmas or new year!

Totally agree flatcoat, we were very disappointed to find BA closed from early November. Last year we did Skipton Christmas Market. We have booked Hawes site as an alternative, but I think we will opt for a cottage now instead. Didn’t see a deal of the Wardens, but they did a great job clearing up after a storm and were always helpful and cheerful. Wishing them a happy retirement

That is one of the reasons we like it. Straight out of the site and through the woods to the Priory or Barden Towers via the riverside walks. We particularly like the viewing point looking along the river to Barden Tower and the famous painting by Turner. Another reason is we got married at Barden Towers (before our caravanning days) 7 years ago and it was one of the first parts of the dales i explored on my motorbike (Anyone else ridden Mastiles Lane?) so always happy to visit the area.

Have spent a lot of weekends at BA years ago, and I mean years ago, during the 90's and early 00's. Used to go after work on a Friday and were lucky if we could get there before 7.30pm! Always enjoyed it there, but early retirement meant more time to spend in locations further afield. Did go again a few years ago during the late snow around Easter, it was fabulous! Fond memories; don't know the current wardens, but do remember from all those years ago one set of wardens who had a cat, which used to sleep in a basket in reception. They were also a lovely couple, but again, that was during the 90's and early 00's.

It's a great location, two decent cafes, a nice gift shop, interesting Abbey and great walks either side of river. Plus 20 minutes drive into Skipton, and lots of other places to get out to close. And I like to forage for Christmas decorations!
