Not sure the evidence backs up that statement? Link I am sure it is a pretty rare thing to happen but absolute trust or absolute control? I am sure dogs are probably like humans there is always a breaking point that could cause an uncharacteristic change of behaviour.

I'm with MM on this one and I know that our Cockapoo hasn't got an ounce of aggression in her. She just doesn't know how to be nasty.
Yesterday on the beach a Jack Russell she has played with happily for the last two years suddenly turned on her, had her face in its mouth and wouldn't let go until I pulled it off. Resulted in a deep cut on her nose which needed treatment by the Vet. But even then, and given Meg must be four times the size of the JR - she didn't retaliate. Now if that wasn't provocation, I don't know what is.

I'll leave you to let the various authorities know they will all have to be put to sleep then. And best warn all the folk with blind dogs of the risk they are at.

I think that is the point that David was making. Your dog had played happily with the JR for two years and yet it attacked your dog.

I'm with the "no dog is 100% trustworthy" on this. We've had Irish Setters for over 30 years now - all rehomed/rescued. Incredibly docile dogs, love fuss from even the smallest of children, love playing with other dogs, Harry was a Pets As Therapy dog visiting our local Leonard Cheshire home. Would I put my hand on my heart and say that, in all circumstances and no matter what the provocation they wouldn't be aggressive? No way! Better safe than sorry is the order of the day, I feel.

Our latest of 4 we have had, border collie has never shown any interest in sheep or other farm animals completely, this year we were watching a demonstration while at Hawes, when all of a sudden she started trying to "assist" with the herding, we put her back in the car (Windows open) and apologised to the shepherd afterwards and his words were "all dogs collies or other breeds only need the "spark" to light the fire in them no matter what they are like normally

I wasn't being so naive as to suggest that no dog could be aggressive - of course they can. All I was saying - like MM - that our dog is so gentle that even with that amount of provocation, she didn't even attempt to retaliate. That's why I am confident that she can be totally trusted in that regard.

Irrespective of any dogs temperament, the Campsite rules state that dogs should be on a lead within the campsite.- - End of. -----That rule is, or should be enforced by the site staff..----- What owners do when outwith the campsite is up to them and nothing to do with the site. So the straightforward thing to do, is obey the rules !.

Trust a Dog? I love my Dogs unconditionally, their nature is placidity itself. Would I trust them in a room over time with a new born baby?-no, I’m not that stupid. I have more respect for Human life & the well being of others. I’m sick to the stomach of reading/watching Dog owners trot out the-‘but He/She has never done anything like that before, they’re a big softie’, said after the ‘big softie’ attacked a Child-usually☹️.

Years of working in the parcels delivery industry, having personally had bad experiences, and also through hearing those of workmates, has left me feeling extremely wary of ALL dogs despite any owner's claims. You are encroaching on what is their turf, and many see it is their duty to protect. Same applies on their pitch on campsites. So I am never comfortable near any dogs now as it is impossible to tell which ones may go for you, and some I discovered, even after owners have stated otherwise.

A healthy respect is due to all living creatures as far as I am concerned. I signed a petition against a growing party trend for small children yesterday....Pony painting parties. Who dreamed this accident waiting to happen up? Ingredients are one grey pony, dozens of squealing youngsters, pots of paint, and parents with blinkers on. One kick from an unhappy pony will smash a child’s skull. Beggars belief how stupid some folks can be.
Meanwhile, back in the touring world with dogs, great CL called Venndown Farm, close to Boscastle and Tintagel. Has a big safe field for morning and evening walks, access to footpaths, and is a welcoming CL with lots of other facilities.

TDA I wholeheartily agree with respect for all living things. We are loaned this place to live in/on for our allotted time span. I was horrified when I saw these paint a pony parties 😲😤😢. It's all about making money! Enough said and it's off track.
Our grand dog is really good but I have seen her 'tell another dog off cos it's her ball' on very odd ocassions. I'd never say never.
Our 2 granddaughters are very different with dogs, one terrified when there's one anywhere near. The younger just wants to 'cuddle'. Not sure what caused the eldest issue, (they live in NZ) they have a cat who tolerates them and being 'messed with' and one who disappears if things get lively. Both in there own ways potentially dangerous and that opened my eyes to dogs, leads and control. I wouldn't forgive anyone who allowed her to be more terrified. I'm not sure which is the biggest concern either. They are taught to respect animals and humans 😉. Some of the latter can be quite dangerous too!

100% we had the most wonderfully placid dog who no one who ever have thought could even show aggression. However, following, a freak accident he broke his foot and was 'hospitalised' for surgery. During the first few days of convalescence he would not tolerate any attempt by anyone to get close to him, in fact he showed every sign of that untamed wolf that lies beneath and I'm pretty sure if we had not heeded his warnings injury to us would have followed. Thankfully once fully recovered his soft and stupidly affectionate temperament returned and that uncharacteristic behaviour was never witnessed again. I then only trusted him 99% of the time.
How often, following those sometimes tragically fatal incidents involving attacks on humans, do we hear the owners say 'I would not have believed it, I trusted my dog, It was a much loved family member' or words to that effect.
Its not the dogs we should despair of, it's the irresponsible and thoughtless owners. Every dog is for life and every minute of that life calls for responsible ownership and a recognition of the genetic make up of our much beloved once domesticated wolves.

Tinny, I’ve said all along, there are Dog owners & Dog lovers. A Dog lover views owning a Dog as a gift. That gift should give to everyone it comes into contact with, be that by being fussed or by allowing a none Dog person freedom to just walk on by. Our(Dog lovers) Dogs are an extension of us, they deserve to be trained & we deserve a trained Dog. Dogs are Canines not Human, their rights are below ours. I cannot guarantee my Dog is safe, I can guarantee that I will try my hardest to ensure they never hurt anyone. I love them way too much to allow them to be destroyed due to attacking someone.
