Elddis Affinity cooker lid
On two occasions in the las year we have had a shattered cooker top, in both cases we were outside the van. Both times we had not used the cooker in the van that day. Hearing the bang we went back into the van, to our surprise the electric ring on the hob was switched on.
After the second time there was much head scratching but we then realised that my wife is about 5’ 2” with a slight (!) tummy. When reaching up to the cupboard above to get a mug and then turning with a sliding sideways movement, she was inadvertently flicking the on switch to full power with her stomach.
Two poor design issues: no safety cutout on the glass lid which isolates both igniter and electric ring when the lid is closed and a flickable switch on the controls. (Probably a third with the boss’bump)
Quotes for replacement lid varied from £45 to £131! All from Elddis dealers

That’s an unfortunate series of events. I’ve not come across a lid without an interlock to cut off the gas when it’s closed - but I’ve never considered whether it also cuts off the electric ring. A useful lesson learned, though sadly at your expense. Thanks.

Got me thinking about our's, so today I have e'mailed Thetford with all the details and serial number to ask them if our cooker has a cutout on the electric plate with the glass lid down. The gas rings are much safer because we have to hold the control knob in and press the other button to ignite
